I woke up at ten o’clock. Alex and Charlie were already up, Alex was watching cartoons. Charlie had given him breakfast already. I had my breakfast, a shower and got dressed. Then I vacuumed the house, did the dishes, laundry and tided up the house.
In the afternoon we took Alex to Mom and Dad’s. They said they would look after Alex while we went out for dinner. Charlie wanted me to ask them if we could go to a movie as well. I said why don’t you ask? Charlie said because you talk better, you’re closer to them and they’re your parents. Mom and Dad said that was fine it was our night out.
We went to the Keg for dinner, we got there at four o’clock. We knew with it being New Years Eve that it would be very busy. When we first went in the hostess was on the phone, she said it probably be a two hour wait. It sure was nice to get out, it’s been hard lately since Alex hasn’t been able to go out. When we came out there were a lot of people in the lounge and lobby as well as people lined up going out the door. We came home, I wanted to change before going to the theatre. Unfortunately the food didn’t agree with me and I had an upset stomach. I was wondering if I was going to make it to the theatre. Once we were inside Charlie stood in the line. We saw “Rainman” which was really good. We went to Mom and Dad’s afterwards.
Alex was really excited to see us, he said he was having a really good time. They were watching Superman III, we watched it as well then we watched the New Years Eve shows.
At midnight we went outside. Dad put the air horn on, luckily Mom had a hold of Geordie. Even so Mom said he was shaking.
We left shortly after midnight. I told Alex to get ready for bed.
Alex was really upset, he said he was too tired to get ready. I said it’s four hours past your bedtime. Alex finally did get ready for bed. I went to bed shortly afterwards.

I woke up at ten o’clock. Alex and I had breakfast. Charlie said he wanted to go to Northern Lighting. I phoned Mom and asked her if she was up to looking after Alex. She said oh sure, bring him down anytime.
I had a shower, got dressed, we left after we had lunch. After we took Alex to Mom and Dad’s we went to Northern Lighting. Alex gave us both a hug and kiss goodbye. We bought a light our room which we needed badly. Then we went to Lougheed mall. I hadn’t had lunch yet so I had something to eat. We walked around the mall for awhile then we went to get Alex.
Alex wanted to show us what he had been coloring. We stayed for awhile then we came home. Alex said he really had a good time at Grandma and Grandpa’s.

I woke up at ten o’clock. I don’t know why I’ve been sleeping so late, probably Christmas preparations. Alex and Charlie were already up. Alex asked me to get him his breakfast. Alex and I had breakfast then I had a shower and got dressed. I vacuumed the house while Charlie went out. He returned the movies we had rented and got a couple more.
I went out in the afternoon, I returned the record album Charlie had gotten me since he also gave me it in a disc. He said he had bought the album then saw the disc on sale. I exchanged the album by Bobby McFerrin for a Rod Steward album. I also exchanged Playmobile Alex had gotten from Grandma in his prize basket.
I didn’t tell Alex I was exchanging it so he was really surprised and happy with it. Alex was watching his movie when I got back.
We ate dinner at five o’clock. After dinner Alex watched his movie again. Alex went to bed at eight o’clock. Alex wanted to do speak and read instead of having a story. Alex is getting really good at it. On the board builder Alex can do it all by himself.
We watched the video, it was Broadcast News. It was good.

I woke up at ten o’clock. Alex and Charlie had been up for awhile. Charlie had given Alex his breakfast.
Charlie went out shopping in the morning. After I had a shower, I did the dishes, laundry and changed the sheets. In the afternoon when Charlie came home I went out shopping. I couldn’t believe the amount of people that were out shopping. There weren’t any good buys , mostly junky stuff for sale and gift wrap.
When I was out I bought Alex toys with the money Shirley had given him. I bought the air speeder (a crooks vehicle of COPS) and the Guess Who game. I gave Alex the air speeder but I kept the game until later. Alex has enough toys for now.
We ate dinner at five thirty.
I rented two movies, Alex watched his movie then it was time for him to go to bed. We watched our movie when Alex went to bed. The movies was Batteries Not Required, it sure was good.

I woke up at ten o’clock. Everyone was already up, they must have wondered about me. I figured they had breakfast already but only the kids had breakfast.
I asked Joan if Paige was okay in the night, that I had heard her cry a couple of times. She said Paige didn’t like sleeping in the playpen so they had to bring her into bed.
I made scrambled eggs, toast and hearted up the ham for breakfast.
They left around eleven o’clock, Paul was in a hurry to get home.
We relaxed after they left. Alex played with his toys. Mom and Dad dropped by around one o’clock. They said they decided to come over this afternoon instead of coming with Blair and Paul. Alex wanted us to play Hamburger with him. About half way through Alex was furious when I took his ingredient after he landed on my kitchen. First of all Alex wouldn’t let me take it but I took it anyways. Alex ran screaming to his room that it wasn’t fair. We just left him there and continued on with the game. I checked on Alex later, he was asleep in the sleeping bag on the floor. Mom and Dad left after the game was over.
I was full from munching all day that I didn’t want dinner. Charlie and Alex had dinner at five thirty. I worked on finishing the Lego police station, Jay had built about half of it. I finished it around seven o’clock, than goodness!
Blair and Paul arrived before eight o’clock. Paul had dropped Jay off earlier. Holly was staying over night at Yvonne and Jaz’s.
We watched a video we had rented, last Emperor. I had to get up a number of times because Alex was yelling at Jay. The first time Alex said Jay had told him the video games was called mouse trap. I told him not to listen to Jay then. The next time Jay was taking away Lego from Alex. The other times if was obvious he was teasing Alex. That is very uncalled for at Jay’s age. He’s such a sneaky kid. I don’t trust him for a minute.
I got Alex ready for bed at ten o’clock.
They didn’t stop the movie, so I missed a big part, as well as bits when I was seeing what was going on with Jay and Alex. At one point I asked something about the movie, Paul said no that it was such and such. Then he says sarcastically, I’M GLAD SOMEONES WATCHING THE MOVIE! I felt like saying what’s your problem.
They left when the movie was over. They asked us if we were coming up for a visit this summer. I said we don’t look into the future that far, anyways. They said well if you come up even for the weekend we’ll have to arrange something.
We went to bed shortly afterwards.

I woke up at seven o’clock but nobody was up yet. Charlie was just getting up and I went back to sleep. I woke up again after eight o’clock and Alex still wasn’t up yet! I went into his room and Alex was awake. I told Alex I was getting dressed, Alex went into the bathroom. I asked Charlie if his camera was ready before we went into the living room. Charlie said he was ready so we went into the living room.
Alex was really excited with what he got in his stocking. Alex got COP figures; Bullet Proof, Sundown, Dr. Badvibes and Rock Krusher. He also got Ninja turtles, a coke car, chocolates, micro masters and a scratch ticket. Alex started to play with them right away.
We had to tell Alex to open his presents. Alex opened his present form Santa. He couldn’t believe that he got Lego and COPS HELICOPTER FROM Santa. Then Alex opened his other presents. Alex got a coat rack with his name on it from Kurt and Pearl, a COPS car and a travel spirograph from Lanie and Paxton, sweat suit and books form Grandma and Grandpa, a Proton Pack, Mousetrap and a guitar from Charlie and myself.
I got a spice rack from Charlie as well as three discs and a nightgown. Alex gave me a video game. Mom and Dad gave me a big porcelain pig and is he ever cute! In my stocking I got a book, two pairs of socks, a tin of chocolates, a lottery ticket and a scratch ticket.
Charlie got a sweat shirt and a power screwdriver from me, a video game from Alex, a sweater from Mom and Dad. In his stocking he got a tin of pistachios and cashews, a black tape and socks.
Alex and I got clothing and earrings from Ken and Naomi.
I phoned Shirley to wish her Merry Christmas. She said they would be over soon.
Mom phoned and asked if Joan and family had arrived yet. I said no they hadn’t arrived yet. I hadn’t heard from Joan since last September. So I had no idea when they would be coming.
Shirley and kids arrived at noon, Aaron went home to get something. Shirley gave Alex $20, Charlie a window cleaner for his car, and a tin of cookies for me.
Jay walked over from Mom’s and stayed until we went to Mom and Dad’s for dinner.
Shirley and family left around two o’clock.
By the time I did a few things around the house it was time to get ready to go to Mom and Dad’s. Mom had phoned a number of times wondering if Paula had arrived yet.
We went down to Mom and Dad’s before four o’clock. Blair was sitting outside smoking. She said Paul and Holly had taken Beverly home. Beverly was feeling ill and asked to go home. We found out later that Beverly has been doing this every year for awhile now.
Joan and family finally arrived at Mom and Dad’s around four fifteen. Mom informed us dinner was at five o’clock. I told Joan mom had been phoning me since noon and the sooner they got dressed the better. We left at four thirty, I helped them bring their stuff into our house. We arrived back at Mom and Dad’s at five o’clock. Karen slipped on the ice, she was carrying Paige who cried right away. Paige was in shock from the fall more then anything. Karen hurt her arm and went very pale. I was the only one who was concerned about Karen. I said to Joan, Karen doesn’t look too good and she’s really upset. Joan asked Karen if she was okay and that was it.
Jeff and Martina had arrived while we were gone. I wondered how Jeff and Blair got on at first! Martina hadn’t wanted to come at first. She said Blair ruined her wedding but Victoria talked her into going.
Mom showed us the ceramic dog Jeff and Martina gave them. Mom said it was funny when she was opening it because it was in foam chips. She said to Alex a box of chips and Alex said Grandma that’s not even funny.
We sat in the living room and talked. I noticed Martina positioned herself so she didn’t look at Blair. She was sitting on the piano bench next to Jeff. Martina faced Jeff most of the time. She did turn her head to talk to me but that was it.
We ate dinner shortly afterwards, I helped Mom put things on the table then Blair came to help as well. After dinner Mom played a tape she had done of poems Poppy had written.
After dinner the kids played video games. Blair and Paul dried the dishes while Dad washed the dishes. I cleared the table and put away the leftovers while Mom put away the clean dishes.
Jeff and Martina left not long after, Jeff had a tooth ache.
We stayed until eleven o’clock when Joan said they would like to go. I got some good shots of Paige, hopefully they turned out!
Joan, Paul and the kids opened their presents. Paige didn’t want to have anything to do with opening presents. She just wanted to run around the house.

I woke up at nine o’clock. I thought Alex had been excited before but he’s even more so now. Alex was jumping up and down and said do you know how many sleeps until Christmas? I said how many? Alex said one more sleep meanwhile he still was jumping up and down!
We had breakfast then I had a shower and got dressed I vacuumed the house and Charlie set up our old be in the spare room. Alex and I had to move some of his toys into his room. After lunch I vacuumed the basement, trimmed the plants and tided up the basement.
We didn’t go anywhere today, I wouldn’t want to take Alex anywhere anyways. I did go to Pharmasave the store was really busy. I bought Charlie and Alex a Christmas card.
We ate dinner at five thirty. We went to Mom and Dad’s. Beverly, Blair, Paul, Holly and Jay were there as well. Alex gave Beverly a hug which made him seem quite embarrassed. Alex started to pull at his leg and say stop that leg. Everyone couldn’t figure out what Alex was doing. I said he just doesn’t want everyone looking at him, he’s embarrassed with all the attention.
Mom had a lot of hors d'oeuvres but most of the family were full. Beverly went to bed at nine o’clock. She gave me a nice compliment which I appreciated. She said you’re prettier than ever. I sad Oh thank you. I’m like Alex, I get embarrassed when I get that sore of attention.
We came home before ten o’clock. I wanted Alex to get to bed soon. I asked him to get ready when we got home. Alex quickly got ready, dressed and kissed us good night. We didn’t hear from him for the rest of the night. I went to bed at eleven o’clock.

We stayed until four o’clock. Mom seemed to be very tired and just not herself. It’s probably the Christmas dinner preparations and wondering how the family will get along.
Alex and I had dinner at five o’clock. Charlie had gone to the Christmas lunch at work, it had started at three o’clock. Charlie came home at five thirty.
I had invited Mom, Dad, Blair and family over but they never turned up. Actually it was a good thing, I sure was tired. I almost feel asleep a few times!

Last night I work Alex up at midnight. Dr. C said to wake Alex up every two hours and ask him what his name was and if he knew who I was. It took me awhile to wake Alex up then when I asked him who he was he said he didn’t know. By about the tenth time I was really wondering about him. Alex was also getting really annoyed. He said why are you asking me so many questions. Finally I got our of him what his name is. Then when I asked him what my name is well actually I said do you know who I am he just nodded his head. I said so what’s my name? Alex screamed MAMA! I went back to bed and set the alarm for two o’clock.
At two o’clock I woke Alex up again and asked him the same questions. Alex was a little better and it was a lot easier. He still yelled the answers out! I went back to bed and set the alarm for four o’clock.
At four o’clock I worked Alex up and we did it all over again. Alex was mad I had woken him up but it didn’t take too long to get the answers out of him. When I went back to bed Charlie said he would get up at six o’clock.
I slept until eight thirty, when I was getting up Alex was getting up as well. We had breakfast, Charlie had been up for awhile. After breakfast I had a shower and got dressed.
I wondered if we should take Alex to the doctors but Charlie thought Alex was alright. The swelling has gone down quite a bit and under his eye and eyelid, it has turned black. Now we really can’t take him anywhere.
I cleaned the bathrooms and washed the floors. Charlie went out after I had finished. He came home after lunch then it was my turn to go out.
I came home around three o’clock. We ate dinner at five thirty.
Mom phoned to tell me Blair and family had arrived at three o’clock. They were now at the mall. That sure didn’t surprise me.
Alex got ready for bed at eight o’clock. He sure has been excited lately, we’ve been counting how many days until Christmas. Alex has been so talkative as well and very very excited!
I watched TV and went to bed at eleven o’clock.

Alex helped to get my lunch. Charlie had gone out shopping this morning. I went out around two o’clock. I went to Lougheed mall picked up Alex’s pictures of him with Santa. I bought Alex a pair of grey cords to go with his sweater. Then I went to London Drugs and bought frames for Alex’s new pictures. I got home before four o’clock. Alex and Charlie were sitting on sofa looking very solemn. At first I didn’t realize what they were doing. Charlie was hold an ice cube on Alex’s face. When I looked at Alex I couldn’t believe it. I sad WHAT HAPPENED! On the right side of Alex’s face it was very swollen with the start of a bruise. It sure looked awful, it figures right before Christmas
I phoned the doctors office and asked Dr. C to phone me. It was hard to keep an ice cube on Alex’s face.
I made dinner and just before we were to eat Dr. C phoned. Dr. C said to apply ice to the swollen area. She said if Alex becomes drowsy or vomits he should be checked right away. That should have happened already in that case. She also said if the swelling didn’t go down he should be checked tomorrow but the swelling should go down by tomorrow.
After dinner I put Alex into our bed to watch TV. He was pretty upset at what happened to him. He fell asleep for a little while. Alex seemed to improves as the night went on, the swelling went down.

I woke up at nine o’clock. I felt a bit strange when I got up. I must be over tired, I’m feeling pretty dizzy.
Alex and I had a breakfast, a shower and got dressed. I vacuumed the house, did the dishes and tided up the house.
After lunch I cleaned the high chair then we took it down to Mom and Dad’s. Alex sure wasn’t in a good mood. Mom had told him he had better be good. He looked like he wanted to hit her, like what he does to Charlie and I went he’s really mad! We stayed for a little while then we went to see Dr. C.
Dr. C thanked us for our card. Then we talked about Alex. She said they never found out what Alex had. Dr. C said she felt that Alex had a viral infection in his throat. Something if left too long might develop into pneumonia. She said she didn’t know enough about chemotherapy to comment on whether or not it had any effect on causing more problems. I had told her about my discussion with Dr. S, whether chemo should have been given in part of not at all. Dr. C checked Alex and said he seems to be fine now. She told Alex to try and slow down. Good luck! Then she weight and measured Alex. She said he had grown a quarter of an inch and gained ¼ of a pound. Dr. C gave Alex a balloon, she told Alex if he wasn’t good she would write Santa. I said I’ve already done that!
We went to the post office and the grocery store, I bought bread them we came home.
I started to cook dinner when we got home, Charlie was already home. After dinner we went to the mall. Alex had a visit with Santa.
When we came home we watched TV, I wrote in the journal. Alex got ready for bed at nine o’clock. I watched TV and went to bed after ten o’clock.

I woke up at eight o’clock. I was going to have a shower when I heard Alex talking. Alex said he wanted to have breakfast. So we had our breakfast then I had a shower and got dressed. Alex also had a shower and got dressed.
We left at ten o’clock to go to Lorrie’s. She’s having a baking exchange, we brought five ½ dozen iced sugar cookies. When we got there Lorrie said oh I forgot to tell you to do them individually in packages of six. I said I wondered how you were going to do that. Most of the women there I didn’t know, they lived closer to Lorrie. Lorrie gave me saran wrap and Nora and I did the cookies.
The kids ate cookies while we went into the living room to have tea and coffee. We had to say our name, where we lived and what we had brought.
Nora told me both her kids were at home with tonsillitis. I had asked her where Kurt was since I hadn’t seen him. I thought that was good of her not to bring him since some people probably would. The rest of the kids seemed to be healthy.
We left around eleven thirty. Alex made our lunch, he did a really good job.
After lunch I cleaned the fridge stove, counter tops and the small appliance. The oven finished self cleaning in time for me to cook dinner.
Charlie worked late so we ate dinner at six o’clock. After dinner I went shopping at Coquitlam centre. Before I left I told Charlie to get Alex ready for bed at seven thirty. When I came home at quarter after eight Alex was still up. I was annoyed with Charlie but he said he forgot. So it ended up that I got him ready for bed and had to read Alex his story since Charlie was too tired to read it.

Charlie had gone to work this morning. Alex and I made shortbread, I rolled the dough out and cut the cookies out. Alex put the cookies on the cookie sheet. I think they were the best shortbread I’ve ever made and that’s saying a lot! I’ve always had a lot of trouble making shortbread but last year I found the trick of it in kneading it for quite awhile.
Then I did the dishes, tided up the house and did three loads of laundry.
After lunch Alex and I made Christmas decorations. By that time Charlie came home from work. We left before five o’clock to go out for dinner. We went to Shanghai and then drove around looking at the Christmas lights.

I woke up before six o’clock, Charlie was already up. I had a shower, got dressed and did my hair. Charlie woke Alex up and helped him to get dressed. Charlie asked Alex if he knew where we were going. Alex said Mama told me it was a surprise.
We left at seven fifteen to go to Eaton’s breakfast with Santa. When we got there, there was a line-up outside. Charlie dropped us off while he parked the car. We waited outside until they finally opened the doors about fifteen minutes. Alex realized when he was the colours that we were going to breakfast with Santa. We were at the beginning of the line up so we were able to pick a good table.
Shirley, Aaron, Brent and Monique past us to go to a table at the back about three or four table behind us. Then while we were starting to eat, Aaron came to talk to us. We really cut the conversation down in hopes he would get the message and leave. It may have been rude but we didn’t want to take any chances.
The breakfast was good, almost too much to eat. They had a lot of characters who came around to every table. We took pictures of Alex with most of them. Then it was time for Santa to arrive. Once Santa had arrived he went to every table.
Brent came down to the stage with his cousin then he came to our table to talked to Alex. I told him to go back to his table that he wasn’t’ suppose to talk to Alex.
As soon as Santa had left we decided to leave as well. It was better that way, to avoid that rush.
We shopped around a bit but Alex said he was tired so we came home. Alex slept all the way home. In the afternoon we all went for a nap. Alex slept the longest, he’s not use to getting up so early.
Mom phoned in the afternoon and invited us for dinner. We watched TV then we went to Mom and Dad’s for dinner.
After dinner we played Stock Ticker. I won much to Charlie’s disgust. We came home at ten o’clock. Charlie went to bed soon after we got home.
Alex and I stayed up and watched TV. We went to bed at eleven thirty. It took me a long time to get Alex to bed.

The rest of the afternoon we didn’t do much. Charlie went to work at two thirty.
Alex and I went to Dairy Queen for dinner. Then we went to Mom and Dad’s. we stayed for a couple of hours and came home.
Alex went to bed at nine o’clock. I watched TV then I phoned Shirley and left a message on her answering service. She had phoned me last Sunday. She had wanted to get together but told me that Brent had bronchitis and Monique had tonsillitis. At that time I had said that I didn’t want to take a chance. She said she would phone in a few days which she never did. I guess she was annoyed because I said what are you going to do about Saturday? She didn’t say much, then she said well they’re on antibiotics so they should be okay. Then she said what are you going to do about Saturday. I was so taken back I didn’t say anything.
Anyways I left a message which she didn’t call me back, so I phoned Aaron to ask about the kids. He said they were doing better. I told him Charlie had decided that it was best to sit by ourselves. Aaron said no you can sit with us the kids will sit at one end and you can sit at the other end. We kept on going over and over until finally he agreed it would be better. He said Shirley had a terrible cold.

I woke up at nine o’clock. Alex and I had breakfast then I had a shower and got dressed. I tided up the house and did the laundry.
We had an early lunch and got ready to go to the hospital. We arrived at the hospital at two o’clock. After we had been there for about fifteen minutes Laurel said did they tell you at the reception that you had to go upstairs for Alex’s blood test. I said no that there hadn’t been anyone there. Laurel went to the receptionist and gave me the form to give them. She said to go to the second floor turn left and go to the Outpatients blood clinic.
When we went upstairs Alex had his picture taken with one of the technicians for their Christmas album. Alex got a small trumpet as a prize. They said we could go back to the clinic that they would send the information down to the clinic.
I thought we would be able to leave by two thirty or three o’clock. Unfortunately it took quite a bit longer. I didn’t find out until three thirty that it takes a long time approximately two hours. The clinic upstairs has to go through the whole hospital before the clinic gets it.
At three thirty a camera crew came in to do some filming for Children’s’ Hospitals Telethon. A woman asked Krisann if there would be anymore children coming into the clinic. Krisann said no that’s it for today. This woman asked me if Alex would be in the film. I said as long as Alex wanted to that was fine with me. Alex said he wanted so I filled out the form.
They had one of the children who has been going to the clinic to introduce himself and say thank you for supporting Children’s’ Hospital. Alex and another child were in the background sitting at the table coloring.
While they were doing that Dr. S talked to me about Alex’s blood test. She said it was okay but she felt it would be better if Alex’s pills were just left at the dosage he’s on. Dr. S gave me Alex’s next appointment she decided Alex didn’t have to come in until the new year. I sure was happy about that, I was afraid Alex might have to come in before Christmas.
We left after four o’clock, it took up to fifteen minutes to get out of the parking lot. Then it took us an hour and a half to get home. Charlie was cooking dinner when we got home. The first thing I did was to get a hot water bottle for my leg. My leg had been aching all day and was getting worst.
We ate dinner at seven o’clock. Afterwards we watched TV, I kept applying the hot water bottle to my leg which seemed to help.
Alex got ready for bed at nine o’clock. He had fallen asleep on the way home. I went to bed at nine thirty.

I woke up at nine thirty. Alex was already up, I gave him his breakfast and I had mine as well. Then I decorated the Christmas tree while Charlie went out shopping. Alex helped me a little bit but I did most of it myself. After I finished I had a shower and got dressed.
Then I had to tidy up the house which was a mess. I invited Mom and Dad over for dinner so I had to get it into shape. It took me until three o’clock to get it into shape. Then I had to buy something from the drug store. When I came home Charlie had already started to cut the vegetables. I still had a few things to do like straightening up and cleaning.
Mom and Dad came over just before five o’clock. I started to cook the steaks, cauliflower and sauce. Charlie cooked the mushrooms while I cooked the potatoes and the other stuff.
After we had dinner Alex asked if we would play a game with him. We played memory then we played Yatchze.
Alex got ready for bed at eight thirty. He was pretty mad that he had to get ready for bed. Charlie read him a story then Alex said good night to everyone.
We played the game until ten o’clock then Mom and Dad went home.
I finished doing the dishes and cleaning up the dining room and kitchen. I watched TV and went to bed at midnight.

I woke up at nine o’clock. Alex and Charlie were already up. Charlie had gotten Alex his breakfast already. I had my breakfast, a shower and got dressed. Then I tided up the house so I could vacuum. While I was vacuuming Mom phoned, she wanted to know if we wanted to go out. I said I would phone her back. I asked Charlie and he said he wanted to go out. I phoned Mom back and said we would bring Alex down soon. I asked Charlie to get Alex ready and to take him down to Mom and Dad’s. By the time they left it was one thirty.
When Charlie came back I was just finishing vacuuming. Charlie brought the Christmas tree we had last year (it’s a live tree in a pot) in the kitchen but it had too many bugs so he took it out to the deck and sprayed it and wrapped it in plastic.
We went to Westwood mall and London Drugs. We got a Christmas wreath at London Drugs for $10. It’s really nice for the price. We picked Alex up and came home.
We left at five thirty and went to Wendy’s for dinner. After dinner we went to see a movie “Ernst Saves Christmas”. I really enjoyed it, it was really funny. Alex stayed awake throughout the move which was amazing. Alex said he liked the movie too!
We got home around nine o’clock. We watched TV, Alex got ready for bed at ten o’clock. I went to bed at midnight.

I woke up at nine o’clock. Alex and I had breakfast then I had a shower and got dressed.
We made our sugar cookies. Alex did a really good job at cutting out his cookies. We made a double batch so we had a lot of cookies but not quite 5 dozen.
We had lunch then we had a rest before we iced the cookies. Alex said he wanted red, green, blue and yellow icing. We did the trees in green trim with decorations in yellow, blue and red; stars in blue and green; rocking horses in blue and red with green and blue eyes; houses in blue, red and green.
By the time we finished it was four o’clock. Charlie came home and asked what was for dinner. I said I wasn’t cooking I was too tired to cook!
We went to the mall and had dinner there and shopped afterwards. We came home around seven o’clock.

I woke up at eight thirty. Alex and I had breakfast then I had a shower and got dressed. I did the dishes and tided up the house.
I phoned Mom to asked her if she would look after Alex while I went shopping. Mom had said yesterday if I wanted to go shopping just to ask. Mom said they would be home so bring Alex down anytime. I said I would bring him down after lunch.
We got down there just after one o’clock. Alex was really annoyed that I wouldn’t be staying with him.
I bought the rest of Charlie’s present so all I have to buy is Kelly something.
Alex and I came home after four o’clock. Charlie wasn’t home yet. I put away the presents then I started to make dinner. We ate at six o’clock when Charlie came home.
After dinner I made a Christmas cake and dough for sugar cookies.
Alex got ready for bed at eight o’clock. I watched TV with Charlie.
Lorrie dropped by to ask if Alex and I could come to a baking exchange at her house on the 19th. I said we could come. She said to bring 5 ½ dozen of one item, something that’s a tradition item in the family. I asked her what was making she said she didn’t know yet but last year she had made meatballs. She said Nora had made Nanaimo Bars and someone else had made a traditional cookie.
After Lorrie had gone I was wondering what to make. I don’t think we have anything that we make on a traditional yearly time. It’s not like there is something I feel I have to make every year. I decided to make sugar cookies and ice them. As a child I can remember Gran making sugar cookies but I don’t have the same recipe.

I tided up the house and did the dishes. We had an early lunch and I took Alex to his class.
Debbie asked me over to their house for tea while the kids were in the class. They live down on Prairie past Overwaite in a new complex. Quite a nice house but I didn’t like the floor plan of the upper floor. The stairs going upstairs are in the middle of the living room and dinning room.
We came back to the rec centre and got the kids. They made an ornament for their Christmas tree. Alex and I came home after the class. I worked on the puzzle while Alex watched TV.
We ate dinner at five thirty. After dinner I made a cherry cake. Alex got ready for bed at eight o’clock. I watched TV worked on the puzzle and went to bed at eleven o’clock.

I woke up at eight o’clock. I had a shower, got dressed and had breakfast. I worked on the puzzle while I watched a tape.
Alex woke up at nine o’clock. I said good morning Alex, did you had a good sleep? Alex said yes did you? I said yes, I asked him what he wanted for breakfast. Alex said he wanted cereal but he didn’t want fruit loops, he wanted to open a new package. I told him no, he had to finish the old one first. Alex said then he would have nothing. I said that’s fine.
Alex finally had something at ten thirty. Then he had a bath and got dressed. We left to go to the mall where we picked up Alex’s picture with Santa then we went to Save-On-Foods to get some groceries. Alex had a temper tantrum in the store. He asked me to buy him ham. I said I didn’t want to buy so many things. Then Alex started to cry nobody likes me. I said why would you say that. He said you never buy what I want. I told him I can’t buy you everything. I said how about a few slices of ham. Alex said that was okay.
We came home around noon. I had my lunch and Alex made his own lunch. I told him I was really impressed. Alex was very pleased with himself.
After lunch we made cookies they didn’t turn out that well. They flattened out too much but they tasted good.
I started to cook dinner at three o’clock. Alex watched TV in our room while I watched a tape.
Alex and I ate dinner at five thirty. Charlie came home at six o’clock, I gave him his dinner. After dinner I went downstairs to write. Alex has been bugging me all day, I guess I shouldn’t say bugging me he was talking to me since he woke up. I had told him to be quiet but he kept on talking.
Mom phoned to see how Alex was, she thought he had gone to the hospital today. I said no he goes in on the 12th.
Alex and I watched a Christmas show then he got ready for bed. He started being upset about sleeping alone again. Something seems to be bothering him.
I watched TV and wrote in the journal. It’s now almost ten o’clock. I’ll go to bed soon.

I woke up at eight o’clock. I got dressed, Alex was sleeping so I cleaned the bathrooms. Before I finished Alex woke up, he came running in the bathroom with no clothes on. Alex said oh I thought you were having a shower. I said no I’m cleaning the bathrooms but would you like to have a shower? Alex said he did, after his shower Alex got himself dry and dressed. Ever since I hurt my back and was unable to help him put on his socks, Alex has been doing it himself.
After I had given Alex his breakfast I finished cleaning the bathrooms. I also cleaned the window sills, they had mildew on all of them. I had a shower, got dressed and had breakfast.
We had an early lunch which was quite interesting since I couldn’t get out of Alex what he wanted to eat.
We left at noon to go to Alex’s class, Merry Mish Mash. When we got there we saw Debbie and Collin. I said hi to Debbie, she looked right at me as though who are you? I said it’s Nancy. She said oh hi I didn’t recognize you, you look different. Debbie said this is Collin. I said boy has he ever changed, he’s grown so much and his face has changed a lot too. Debbie said he looks so much like his father. I said this is Alex. Debbie said he sure has changed.
Cindy called us in, asked the kids to put there jackets on the table. Then they got a name tag and played with the toys. Once Alex was settled I said goodbye to him and told him remember I’m the one to come and get you. Alex said okay, bye Mama.
I came home, the class is two hours long. I didn’t think I had that many things to do in the mall. I had lunch I didn’t have it with Alex. I watched my tape then I cleaned up the house.
When I went to get Alex, Debbie asked me to come over to their house next time. I said that would be great.
Alex said he was glad he had come. I told Debbie that Alex had said he didn’t want to go. Cindy overheard me and couldn’t believe it. I said before we came Alex said how much he was going to miss me. Cindy said Alex the child who runs off before he says good bye.
We stopped at Pharmasave on the way home, I bought stamps. Alex wanted me to buy him a toy. I told him I couldn’t today, with Christmas coming up he shouldn’t be getting any toys. He’ll be getting so many toys at Christmas. Before we left the store Alex started to cry. He said I wasn’t nice to him any more. We left the store. I told him when we got to the car that he was being silly and I didn’t buy toys for boys when they cried in the store.
Alex was still crying when we were driving home. Alex said he wanted to get his tape he left at Grandma’s I said I would if he stopped crying. Alex stayed in the car while I went to get his tape. Mom asked where Alex was, I said he was in the car. I said he was tired from his class so we were coming home.
When we got home Alex did some writing while I put stamps and address labels on the Christmas cards and mailed them.
Charlie came home at four o’clock. We ate dinner at five o’clock. After dinner I worked on the puzzle and read.

I woke up at nine o’clock. I heard Alex tell Charlie he wanted breakfast. I waited until I felt it was safe before I got up. Very bad of me, I guess but I make Alex his meals every day. I feel I need a break some time. When I did get up I had a shower, got dressed and had breakfast. Alex wanted me to do Christmas decorations with him. I finished doing the snowflakes, Alex did more chains.
Then I tided up the house. The spare room and Alex’s room were really messy. Alex and I put away all his toys in a neatly fashion.
After that I repotted three of the houseplants. Alex watched for awhile but he said it was too cold in the garage for him and went upstairs.
Mom had phoned when I took Kelly for a walk and invited us for dinner. Before we left to return the tapes, I worked on the puzzle some more.
We left at three thirty returned the tapes then we went to Mom and Dad’s. They bought two lazy boys for the family room which looked really good there. Charlie would love to have one, but we can’t afford it now anyways.
After dinner we played a dice game, Alex played two games then he watched his tape on TV. Alex was rather irritable, this isn’t his best week anyways. It’s hard when you know it’s not Alex talking it’s the medicines sick affects. Alex will say bad words because he knows he’ll get a reaction out of me especially. Grandpa told him he had better watch out or he’ll get a lump of coal like he did last year. He told Alex that the note said he had been bad this year and that’s what he got. Alex said no way he was getting his presents no matter what.
We left at eight o’clock. Alex went to do his Christmas decorations while I had a bath. After my bath I told Alex to get ready for bed. He said he wanted to write first. I told him when he was finished I wanted him to get ready. Alex said he would. I came downstairs, listened to the stereo and wrote in the journal. Alex came down five minutes later and started to ride his bike. I told Alex it was time for bed. Alex burst into tears, I told him to come here. I asked Alex what was the matter. He said he wanted to ride his bike. He seemed so genuinely upset that I said for a few minutes he could ride his bike. As soon as Alex got on his bike he smiled. When I told him again to get ready for he did.
I went upstairs about five minutes later to make sure he was getting ready. Alex told Charlie that Mama had read two stories yesterday. He really stressed how many I had read. Charlie said no way I read you a story yesterday. Which Alex and Charlie started to fight about. I broke in and told Charlie he had been asleep when Alex went to bed last night. What did he do read it when he was asleep!
Alex finally got his story out of Charlie. Alex complained when he got into bed that he didn’t have anyone real to sleep with. I said most kids don’t have anyone to sleep with. Alex said yeah but I’m afraid of ghosts. I said good night and left his room. There is no way to solve the problem Alex will just argue with me anyways no matter what I say.
I went back downstairs, listened to the stereo and wrote in the journal. It’s after nine o’clock, I’m going to read and go to bed.

I woke up at nine o’clock. Charlie and Alex were already up. Charlie had given Alex his breakfast. I had my breakfast, worked on my puzzle, had a shower and got dressed.
The rest of the day I spent cleaning up the house. I hadn’t done any housework since my back had been hurting me. The house looked like a disaster area. I got Alex to help me put away his toys that seemed to be scattered all over the place. I did the dishes, put away things that didn’t belong in the kitchen or should have been thrown out, then I swept the kitchen floor. That was all I could handle for one day. I worked on the puzzle until it was time for us to go out to eat. We went to McDonald’s for dinner. Alex wanted a turbomac which is a McDonald character in a car. After dinner we rented two movies and came home.
Alex watched his movie after Charlie watched the news. I watched the other movie around eight o’clock. Charlie started to watched the movie but didn’t stay to watch it. He went into our room and watched TV and probably fell asleep instantly.
After the movie was over Alex and I made Christmas decorations, chains out of Christmas wrapping paper.
Alex had a nap this afternoon so he was pretty energetic.
Alex sure did a good job on his chain. He did them himself and after I showed him how to join them into a full circle he did that himself. I was really impressed at how well he did them.
I finished the one Grandma had started, we hung it across the wall unit. Alex made three in a circle which we also hung on the wall unit.
I told Alex at ten thirty I wanted him to get ready for bed. Alex was in bed by eleven but when I went to bed at eleven thirty he was still awake.

I woke up at nine o’clock. Alex came into our room, he asked me to get his Advent Calendar down. After breakfast I had a shower and got dressed. I did the laundry and did the dishes.
After lunch we went to the Bay, I had the special done. What I mean is that Alex had his picture taken in the Portrait Studio. They have a special $19.96 for a package. Alex was really good, I think they probably got some good shots. Then we went to see Santa, we had to wait awhile before Santa came back. Alex couldn’t wait to see him. When Alex sat on Santa’s knee Santa, asked him what he wanted. Alex said he wanted micromasters and a jet copter. Santa asked Alex if he had been good. Alex looked at me and Santa said pretty good. Alex said yes then Santa said remember to be good until Christmas. Alex said he would. We had one picture taken which will be ready next Tuesday. The portraits from the Bay are going to be ready on the 17th at 2:20 for our reviewing.
We came home, Alex played in the spare room. Patrick came over to play. I asked him if he had been sick. Patrick said he hadn’t, he stayed until five o’clock.
Charlie ordered pizza which arrived shortly after five o’clock. After dinner I worked on the puzzle again.
The news had an update on Dioxin. Now they say the government knew about the problem for five years. The report said in animals it causes cancer and other diseases. That really got me, is that why Alex has Leukemia? I guess we’ll never know. Charlie said I didn’t eat that much seafood when I was pregnant but how much causes cancer?
Alex and I watched a Christmas show on TV. He had gotten ready for bed before the show. When the show was over he asked Pa to read him a story. He was in bed by nine o’clock.
I wrote in the journal from eight o’clock until ten thirty. I’m going to watch TV for awhile then I’m going to bed.

I woke up just after eight o’clock. Charlie wants me to go to Lumberland, they have a Grand Opening sale. I had a shower and got dressed. I phoned Dad and asked him if he would like to come with us. I thought it would do them both good to be away from each other. They’ve been quite short with each other. Dad said he would and asked what time. I said I would pick him up at nine thirty.
I made Alex his breakfast and told him to get dressed when he was finished. Alex had his first chocolate from his Advent Calendar that Grandma gave him.
We picked Dad up at nine thirty and arrived at Lumberland at nine forty five. It was jammed packed. The line up for the cashiers were a couple of blocks long. Dad figured it would take four hours for them to go through. The items I was looking for were sold out. That was lucky I don’t think I could have stayed in the line up that long!
We went to Westwood mall afterwards I wanted to get Alex’s hair cut. We went to Toppy’s but they said we would have to wait half an hour. We walked around the mall. Alex bought Pa his present. Dad said he lost his glasses somewhere, I gave him my keys for my car to see if they were there. He came back and said they weren’t there. We went to the Sandwich Tree, Alex had a sandwich while Dad and I had a donut. We went back to Toppy’s and they were ready to take Alex. Alex was good as usual, he sat very still. It sure makes it easier on the hairstylist.
We went to the drycleaners and came home. Alex watched TV while I wrapped Pa’s present. Kurt phoned and asked Alex to come over. Then he phoned back and asked Alex to bring something with him.
Alex wasn’t too happy about going without me but he went anyways. I reorganized a couple of shelves in the kitchen and washed a load of dishes that had dust on them from just sitting on the shelves.
Charlie came home at four o’clock. At five o’clock I phoned the Andrew’s to tell them to send Alex home.
We went to Lee’s Restaurant for dinner then we went to Save-On-Foods.
When we got home we listened to the news. They had a report that really disturbed me. They said the Government has put out a warning to stop eating shellfish, prawns and crabs. We had just eaten prawns for dinner. They said the pulp mills when they bleach the paper products, they dump the chemicals into the river which is absorbed into the shellfish. The chemical is called Dioxin. It can cause problems in the immune systems, the liver and birth defects. It really makes you wonder why people abuse the earth this way. I feel people should care more about what they are doing with all these chemicals. For me when I’m cleaning I don’t use any chemical cleaners except to clean the sofa. If there was something else to use I would. When I’m cleaning the bathroom I use baking soda. I use baking soda and vinegar for cleaning the floors. I use a damp cloth for cleaning the furniture.
I worked on the puzzle which seems to be coming a long. Alex got ready for bed at eight o’clock. I watched TV and went to bed at eleven o’clock.

Alex woke me up at nine thirty. He said he wanted to have his breakfast. After breakfast I had a shower and got dressed. Then I did the dishes and tided up the house. I couldn’t do too much as my back still hurts.
After lunch I had a bath. My back hurt quite a lot so I thought it might help. While I was in the bath, Mom phoned and told Alex he could come down for a visit. I phoned Mom after I had gotten dressed and she said to bring Alex down any time.
By the time we got there is was one thirty. I went to Toy City, they had a lot of C.O.P.S stuff. That annoyed me since I had asked if they were getting the helicopter. The clerk told me they didn’t sell it. They had a contest for C.O.P.S. which I entered Alex in.
I came home and put away Alex’s toys. Then I went to pick up Alex, he was happy to see me. He said he wanted to give me a hug. He stood on the stairs while I knelt on the stairs. Alex gave me a whole bunch of kisses. Grandpa said Alex sure loves his Mama.
Their next door neighbour Betty came over with a Christmas present from Ronnie and Chrissy. They had left already with the youngest daughter. Betty is going later with the other three children.
We got home just after four o’clock. Charlie wasn’t home yet. I heated up the leftovers. Alex was very hungry. It’s the prednisone again!
Alex’s medicine has been changed again. He now takes 1 Mercaptopurine a day, 5 Methotrexiate, 6 prednisone daily for five days and 2 Bactrim daily three times a week. Dr. S wants to increase it in a couple of weeks.
Alex and I ate dinner at five thirty. After we ate I started to cook dinner for Charlie, he came home at six o’clock.
Alex and I watched TV, I also did my puzzle. I had a bath, my back was bothering me a lot today.
Alex got ready for bed at seven thirty. Charlie read him a story. I watched tv and went to bed at eleven o’clock.

I woke up at nine thirty. Alex came into our room and said he wanted breakfast. I told him to go pick out what cereal he wanted to have. Alex decided to have hot cereal. I made Alex his breakfast and my own.
After breakfast I told Alex I was going to have a shower, but then decided to have a bath. My back felt a little bit better for having a bath. Alex came running into the bathroom and said where are you? I told him that I was in the other bathroom and that I was having a bath. Alex said WHAT! I want to have a shower. I told him that I needed to have a bath because my back still hurts. Alex threw himself down on the floor and screamed he had to have a shower. I told him I was having a bath and went into the bathroom. Alex came into the bathroom and said he wanted a bath. I told him he could have a bath when I was finished.
After our baths we both got dressed. Alex watched C.O.P.S. on his tape. I made our bed and put away my laundry. Then it was time for lunch. After lunch we made snowflakes, put glitter on them and then hung them on our living room window. Then I did our Christmas cards.
I talked to Marla, she said Paxton wasn’t feeling well. She said he complained of pain all over. Marla said she didn’t know if he had the flu or if his legs were bothering him. I told her I was phoning to invite them for lunch but we had better wait. She agreed and I said phone me when Paxton is feeling okay.
Alex and I had dinner at five o’clock. Charlie came home at six o’clock, I made him his dinner. We watched TV and I did my puzzle.
I told Alex to get ready for bed after I had a bath. Alex said he was too tired to get ready for bed. I told Alex I could help him but he wouldn’t have a story or if he did it himself I would read him a story. Alex got ready for bed and I read him a story.
I wrote in the journal and watched TV. I’m going to bed soon.

I woke up at nine o’clock. Alex was just getting out of bed when I went to check on him. Alex watched TV while I had a shower. After I got dressed I got Alex his breakfast.
My back sure is sore it’s hard to bend over. I don’t know what’s wrong with it.
I changed the sheets on our bed and did my laundry. I gave Alex a shower, he got himself dried and dressed.
We had an early lunch since we had to go to the hospital this afternoon. After lunch I got ready and we left just after twelve o’clock.
Once we were at the hospital we had to wait half an hour before anyone did anything. Krisann came to weigh Alex. She just came back from maternity leave, she had boy. She now has two boys, Adam who’s three years old and Evian who’s four months old. Krisann said she was going to send Alex’s Vincristine off, since Alex has been okay. I explained that Alex had been in the hospital a couple of weeks ago. Krisann said Alex should probably have a blood test first. She checked with Mary and said it would be a few minutes.
When Mary called us Alex sat in the chair by himself. He sat still while Mary gave him a finger poke. I was very proud of him, I told him he’s getting to be a big boy.
We went to the cafeteria to get a drink then we had to wait once we were in the clinic for Dr. S. we saw her at two thirty. Dr. S checked Alex and gave us Alex’s prescription. Alex stayed in the clinic while I went to the pharmacy. I waited while they filled the prescription, they said it would be only fifteen minutes. I read my book and the prescription was actually ready in fifteen minutes!
When I came back to the clinic Alex was having his Vincristine put in. Margaret was giving Alex his Vincristine, she said they were having trouble. Margaret also said that they had tried in the one arm but it didn’t work. I sat down with Alex while Margaret tried in the other arm and Heather held his hand. Margaret was able to get it into the other hand.
We saw Sheila today she came into the clinic while we were there. She said Alex had really changed and he had grown. I told her Alex had been in the hospital a couple of months ago. Shelia said nobody told me. I told her why Alex had been in the hospital and asked her if it took longer for someone with Leukemia to get better when they got sick. Sheila said it takes a person with Leukemia a lot longer to get better because when they had Chemotherapy it brings their counts down and it makes it harder for them to get better. I told Sheila that Alex’s HGB stayed normal all the time, the rest of his counts went down which I thought was good but I wondered why. Sheila said they usually all go down and that the WBC, ANC, and Platelets are usually the ones to go down first.
We left after Alex said good bye to all the nurses.
After we left the hospital we went to McDonald’s to get dinner for Alex and then to the mall to buy him a prize. Alex decided that he wanted a transformers, then we came home.
When we got home Charlie wasn’t home yet. Alex opened the transformer package and I showed him how it transformed.
I phoned Mom since she left a message on the machine. She sure sounded out of sorts. She didn’t talk long and wasn’t interested in what we had been doing. I heated up Alex’s dinner and heated up leftovers for myself.
Charlie came home at six o’clock. Alex and I watched “Popeye” the movie on TV.
I got Alex ready for bed at seven thirty. Charlie read him a story and I put him into bed, Alex took his transformer to bed with him.
I had a bath which seemed to help my back. I did the dishes and tided up the house. Then I watched tv and went to bed.

I woke up at nine o’clock. Alex and Charlie were already up. Alex hadn’t had breakfast yet but he said he wouldn’t have anything because we didn’t have any cold cereal. I had my breakfast, had a shower and got dressed.
I went to Canadian Tire and the drycleaners. I bought Charlie a cordless screwdriver for Christmas.
When I came home my back was pretty sore. Then I picked Alex up and it got progressively worse. I started to prepare the dinner for tonight, Mom and Dad are coming over for dinner.
Charlie went and returned the videos we had rented. I asked him when he came back if he would sweep the kitchen floor. I couldn’t bend over without being in a lot of pain.
I made a chocolate cake for dessert. We had chicken, cauliflower, baked potatoes and buns for dinner.
Mom and Dad arrived after four o’clock. We ate dinner at five thirty. After dinner Alex got out one of his games. Grandpa, Grandma, Alex and I played while Charlie cleaned the table. When we had finished playing I got Yatchee out and all five of us played. Alex got a really good score, he even beat Pa!
I got Alex ready for bed at eight o’clock and read him a story. Then we continued playing our game. It was nice for the four of us. It was nice and quiet with no interruptions!
Mom and Dad left at ten o’clock. I cleaned up the house, finished doing the dishes.
I went to bed at eleven o’clock.

I woke up at nine o’clock, Alex had been calling me from his room. He said he had to tell me something. Alex said he needed to get changed. I told him to take off his P.J.‘s and have a shower. Alex did and while he was taking off his P.J.‘s he asked me when we would be decorating the Gingerbread house. I told Alex after I had breakfast and I had a shower.
Charlie went grocery shopping before we woke up. After I had my breakfast and I had a shower, we started to do the decoration for the Gingerbread house. I used the icing from yesterday, but it was running. I had a little bit left of the icing sugar but is still didn’t work. I had to wait until Charlie came back to make a new batch.
Alex was pretty upset this morning and had a few temper tantrums. Not going out is sure hard on him. Charlie doesn’t seem to understand how hard it is.
When Charlie came home I put away the groceries and made a new batch of icing. It was better but not as good as it has been in the past. I had trouble getter the peppermint patties to stand up. Alex tried one said it tasted like a cookie. I broke one in half and it had a cookie in middle. They aren’t peppermint patties. As they fell down I kept putting them up until the icing set. It took all afternoon to decorate the gingerbread house.
Charlie went to get dinner for us. We ate at five thirty, after dinner we went to Mom and Dad’s. We had rented a movie and thought they would like to see it. We played a game first then watched the movie.
I had to take Alex into another room to have a talk with him, he was acting very rude. Alex was saying, “you wanta bet?”. He was also being rude and making funny faces.
After the movie we came home. I got Alex ready for bed. I went to bed near midnight.

I woke up to the alarm at eight o’clock, I thought maybe I might have a few hours to myself but Alex woke up shortly afterwards.
We had breakfast then I had a shower and got dressed. Alex watched TV while I did my housework. After lunch Mom phoned to tell me she would take Alex if I wanted to go shopping. We got down there at one thirty. I went to the bank then I went to buy Alex a present with the money Grandpa had sent him. By the time I got to Mom and Dad’s it was three thirty. We had tea and cookies. Then we came home. Charlie went to the bank and Save-On-Foods.
Alex and I decided we wanted to have Pizza. I heated it up, it had been frozen previously. We ate before Charlie got back, he didn’t know what he wanted to eat anyways! We ate dinner at five thirty.
After dinner I decided to do the Gingerbread house. First of all I cut out the pattern for the house then I made the dough. After I had cooked the pieces and let them cook I made a batch of icing. Then I attempted to put it all together. The hardest part is getting the chimney together because it’s so small.
During the time I was doing the house, Alex went to bed. Alex asked me not to put the decorations on. He said he wanted to help put them on. I told him I wouldn’t be doing that tonight.
By the time I got the house together and cleaned up it was eleven o’clock. I went to bed before midnight.

I woke up at eight o’clock to the alarm. Alex was awake when I went into his room. Ever since he got over his cough he seems to be sleeping less.
We had breakfast then I had a shower and got dressed.
Last night I was able to get Alex the Proton Pack. Woodward’s had phoned before dinner and said that it was in.
It snowed last night, Alex couldn’t wait to go outside in it. We took Kelly for a walk and dropped in on Mom and Dad. I wasn’t planning on staying very long but Mom asked if I would make snowballs with her. We finished making them with Alex’s help at eleven thirty.
We walked back and it started to snow again. We had our lunch as soon as we got home.
In the afternoon we cut out snowflakes. I had copied the instructions out of a magazine. We also made a Christmas tree on purple construction paper with glitter. It looks really pretty with the gold and silver glitter.
Charlie came home at four thirty. After dinner I worked on the puzzle. Alex got ready for bed at eight o’clock.
I had been to the mall looking for Christmas presents.
I watched TV, wrote in the journal and went to bed at eleven o’clock.

I woke up at eight o’clock to the alarm. I checked Alex, he was still sleeping. I got dressed, had breakfast and cleaned the bathrooms.
Alex woke up at nine thirty, I hadn’t finished cleaning the bathrooms yet. Alex wanted cereal for breakfast, he asked me to get him a bowl. Then Alex poured the cereal into the bowl and I put in the milk.
After I finished the bathrooms, I had a shower and got dressed. I got the E.T. puzzle down and brought up the card table to do it on. I thought it would be nice to do at Christmas time.
After lunch I wrote in the journal while Alex watched Dinosaucers.
A parcel from UPS came for Alex from Gloria and Bob (Mom and Dad’s friends). Alex was looking forward to getting a parcel so it was just what he needed. Alex got Army Ants and a Lego basic set. The Lego set makes houses which is neat. It sure was nice of them to buy Alex something.
I phoned to tell Mom what Alex had gotten from them. She asked me to write and thank them.
Charlie came home at four o’clock. Alex and Charlie fought over the TV as soon as Charlie sat down. I hardly ever watch TV in the living room, I usually go into our room and watch it.
We ate dinner at five o’clock. Alex didn’t eat dinner with us. He said he wanted dinner from McDonald’s. I went to McDonalds and got him Chicken McNuggets, fries and a turbomac (Grimace on a white car).
It’s been hard on Alex staying home so much when he has had so much freedom going wherever he wanted to go. Alex has been irritable the last few days. I think it’s just from being inside and not playing with other kids.
Shirley phoned while I was out, I phoned her back. She had invited us over but Brent has a cough. Charlie thought it was a bad idea for me to go over but it was up to me. I told Shirley that I would skip it for now.

I woke up at eight o’clock. I set the alarm to wake me up instead of sleeping until ten o’clock. I thought I could get a few things done before Alex woke up.
I checked on Alex before I had a shower he was sleeping. After my shower I got dressed and wrote in the journal.
Alex woke up at ten o’clock. He was really happy, he said he had a good sleep. Alex had cereal for breakfast and a Japanese orange.
I did the laundry, the dishes and tided up the house. We had an early lunch.
Mom and Dad dropped by they wondered if I wanted to go vote. I told them I had to go take Alex to the hospital, but thanks anyways. Mom said if Charlie and I wanted to vote later to bring Alex down.
We left for the hospital before one o’clock. We got to about 12th and Nanaimo when I heard a thumping noise. I realized the car had a flat tire. We made it to the gas station but it was a self-serve. I went into the cashier but she was the only employee there. So I had to change the tire myself. It took me quite awhile to figure out how to work the jack. I read the handbook and figured it out. I never realized that tires were so heavy! I got the flat off okay but putting on the spare was something else. When I got the flat out I had to raise the car up some more, it wasn’t high enough for the spare. It took me quite awhile to get the spare on and to match up the wholes with the bolts. A guy came when I was half way there and asked if he could help. I said it was okay that I was almost finished. Then another came when I was almost done but I said it was okay thanks anyways. The first guy said you look like you know what you’re doing. I told him it wasn’t my car that I had never changed the tire on this car before. He said oh you’re doing just fine. You’ve got your brake on? I said yes I have. He said then you’re okay.
We finally got to the hospital at 2:20 p.m. our appointment was for 1:30 p.m. I told Joan that we had a flat halfway in that was why we were so late. Joan said oh you’re kidding! I told her I was using my husband’s car and I had never used the jack. I had to figure out how to use it first!
We went into the clinic where Mary was waiting. She said we almost gave up on you guys. I told her we had a flat tire on the way in. Mary said oh no how terrible. Alex quickly took off his jacket and went to run and play. Mary and I both called him to come back. Dr. S had been standing there but no doubt she didn’t hear me. She said I was about to leave a note. I said we would have been on time had it not been for the flat tire. She said oh you had a flat? When she said she was going to give them a note, she sounded really annoyed. Mary had even said you never are usually that late ever.
Mary took Alex to have his blood test, but first she ran warm water and put Alex’s hands in the water.
Alex played while we waited for the blood counts. Dr. S came to tell us that Alex’s counts were okay to go ahead with his Chemotherapy drugs. She was starting with half a dose since Alex had to have Chemotherapy next week. Alex is to take ¾ of a pill of Mercaptopurine and 3 Methotrexiate pills. I asked Dr. S about the Bactrim. I told her that on the ward they wanted me to asked her about the dosage. She looked very annoyed about me saying that. Then I told her they said the dosage wasn’t enough that they had never seen it that low. Now she looked really annoyed! I said he’s taking one pill daily three times a week, unless I read it incorrectly. I then gave her the pill bottle. Dr. S said oh I didn’t realize they were the small pills. Alex should be taking two pills daily three times a week. That annoyed me that Alex was taking the incorrect amount. I had asked Heather on October 5th why Alex’s Bactrim pills had been changed from two pills daily three times a week to one pill daily three times a week. Heather had told me to follow that was on the pill bottle and that she would check with Dr. S and if there was a change she would phone back. Heather never did phone back. When we went in on November 2nd we saw Dr. K I asked him what the dosage was supposed to be for Alex’s Bactrim. Dr. K said it wasn’t in Alex’s chart as to what the dosage was. I thought that was pretty strange. He then told me to check with Dr. S when she got back. I wonder if that was why Alex didn’t get over his cough.
We came home and got home at three forty five. When Charlie got home I told him about the flat tire on his car. Charlie said id you call BCAA? I told him I had changed it myself. Charlie phoned ICBC but they were closed then he phoned Kir Mac, the auto body shop and they said to bring it in. Charlie left for Kir Mac while I cooked dinner.
Luckily Charlie got back when dinner was ready. Charlie said the flat might have been caused by the accident. After dinner we took Alex down to Mom and Dad’s while we went to vote. When we came back Dad asked us to come in. We played a game and Alex watched us. I let Alex roll the dice in the game.
Alex wasn’t very nice in fact, he was quite rude when we came back from voting. Alex kept on saying “you want to bet?” I had to scold him he was so bad.
We came home at eight o’clock. Alex went to bed shortly after we got home.

I woke up at ten o’clock. Alex and Charlie were already up. Charlie had given Alex cereal for breakfast. I had my breakfast and before I had finished Charlie went grocery shopping. I had a shower and got dressed. Alex told me when I got dressed to phone Grandma. I asked him why and he said that Grandma had phoned when I was in the shower. He told me that he had picked up the phone and told Grandma that I was in the shower. He said Grandma asked him to tell me to phone her. I phoned Mom she asked us for dinner and if we would like to go shopping while they looked after Alex. I said that would be nice and we would bring Alex down soon.
When I told Alex he was a bit upset but I told him Grandma was going to do something special with him. Alex thought that would be fun.
We took Alex down to Mom and Dad’s at noon. Alex wanted to go from the car to the house by himself but we went with him. Alex was quite happy to see us go.
We went shopping downtown. We were looking for something for Alex but none of the stores had it. We had lunch at Eaton’s then we went to A&B Sound and bought two discs.
We went home, let Kelly outside and I did some work around the house. I phoned Mom, she said Alex was fine, I said we would be down soon.
We went to Mom and Dad’s at four o’clock. We had dinner before five o’clock. After dinner we played a game. We came home at eight thirty, Alex and I played a game we had borrowed from Mom and Dad. Then Alex went to bed. I watched TV, wrote in the journal and went to bed at eleven o’clock.

I woke up at ten o’clock. Charlie had gotten up at five thirty to give Alex his medicine which I thought was very nice of him. I had set the alarm but I guess he decided to get up instead because the alarm had been moved from where I had put it last night. . I woke up to Alex was calling me from the bathroom, I gave Alex his breakfast and then made waffles. Charlie had gone out before Alex and I woke up. Charlie had waffles when he came back from shopping.
I had a shower, got dressed, and got ready to go out shopping. I wanted to get some presents for Alex’s friends. I left at two o’clock and went to Lougheed mall, it was really busy. I did find something for Brent and Monique but I didn’t find what I was looking for Lanie and Paxton. So I went to Coquitlam Centre, I bought Alex a few more things and a car for Paxton. I went to Consumers’ next and bought Lanie a Wish World Kid. I finally got home after five o’clock.
Charlie said he wanted Chinese food for dinner, he left shortly afterwards to pick it up at Sek Kee.
After dinner we went to Mom and Dad’s. Alex didn’t want me to phone them. He said he wanted to surprise them!
We played a game while Alex played and watched a tape on TV. We left at eleven o’clock, I got Alex ready for bed when we got home.
I watched TV and went to bed.

I woke up at ten o’clock. Alex was calling me from the bathroom. We then had breakfast, after breakfast Alex watched TV and I had a shower and got dressed.
Mom phoned while I was coming out of the shower. She wanted to know if I wanted to go shopping this afternoon, she would look after Alex. I said that would be great and that I would bring Alex down after lunch.
After I had gotten myself ready I got Alex ready and we had lunch. Alex was pretty upset that he was going to be left at Grandma and Grandpa’s. Alex said he wanted me to come with him and stay. I told him I had to go to the bank and buy him a Christmas present. Once we were there Alex seemed to be okay. I told Mom that Alex was a bit upset and he might cry. I tried sneaking away but Alex saw me. He said where are you going. I didn’t say anything and Alex said are you going shopping? I said yes, I was. Alex said have a good time. That was a surprise after how upset he was this morning about the idea.
So I first went to the bank and then I went to Metrotown. I was hoping to find the two things for Alex that I haven’t been able to find. I went to quite a few stores then I went into Just for Kids and they had one of the items. I couldn’t believe it, they had three of them and everywhere I had gone they said they wouldn’t be getting anymore.
I left the mall and went to Mom and Dad’s. The traffic was pretty heavy and I didn’t get back until after four o’clock. Mom said Alex had been fine that he had played and talked to himself. We came home and Charlie was home already. We decided to order a pizza for dinner, Charlie went to pick it up.
After dinner we watched TV Alex went to bed at nine o’clock. I watched TV and went to bed at midnight. after I had given Alex his medicine.

Diagnosis: Leukemia; November 17, 1988
I woke up to the alarm ringing at nine o’clock. I had asked Charlie to set the alarm because we have to go to the hospital today.
I had a shower, got dressed and woke Alex up. I got Alex and my breakfast, I got Alex to have a shower. After Alex had his shower I dried him and helped him get dressed.
We left after ten o’clock. We had to wait once we got to the hospital. It was about half an hour before Alex had his blood taken. I told Mary that Alex was glad he wasn’t having his blood taken from his arm. He said that it hurts and he usually cries when he has it. Mary said if it’s done right it shouldn’t hurt at all. She said we’ll have to do something about that. She also said that when their finger is used too much it become hard and they can’t use it anymore. Luckily Alex didn’t hear that.
We waited to see Dr. S. Then we talked to Laurel, before we were finished Alex had his blood test. Lorraine talked to us but she got interrupted and then finally Laurel came back to talk to us.
They didn’t have it in Alex’s chart that he had been into the hospital last week. So I explained to Laurel exactly what his problem had been. She was very nice about it all. She seemed to be one of the nicest people we have met during our time at the clinic. Not saying that the other nurses and doctors haven’t been helpful. I’m very thankful that they’ve been able to help Alex, but they don’t seem to want to listen to our problems they’re in a hurry all the time.
I told Laurel that Alex had pain in his foot on Tuesday night. I had phoned 3B and the nurse said she couldn’t help me that there wasn’t a doctor on the floor. That the nurse then transferred me to Emergency where I talked to a doctor but the doctor told me she would have to see Alex first. I told her we decided we would wait first before giving Alex Tempra. I wasn’t sure if Tempra and the antibiotic were okay together, that’s all I wanted to know. Laurel was quite upset that the nurse on 3B couldn’t help me. She said in future we would be able to give Alex Tempra with his antibiotic
I also asked Laurel what risk level Alex was, that in the hospital they had asked me and I didn’t know. Laurel came back later and said that Alex was a moderate risk.
We finally saw Dr. S, I told her Alex had been in the hospital last week. She said she knew, she said that Dr. P had told her. She then asked me what ward Alex had been in. I told her 3B. Dr. S said she didn’t know what they had done with the information but it wasn’t with Alex’s chart. I then had to supply her with all the information, starting with the day it started. I explained that Alex had a temperature on November 8th and that I had phoned 3H and they told me to give Alex Tylenol and if his temperature didn’t go down to bring him into Emergency. If it did go down in two hours to take him to his family doctor the next day. I told her Alex’s temperature did go down and we went to see our family doctor. Dr. S then asked when we saw our doctor. I told her we saw Dr. C on Wednesday the 9th at three o’clock. Dr. C heard rattling in Alex’s chest. She ordered a X-Ray, blood and urine tests. Dr. C then consulted with Dr. R because she wanted an Oncologist’s opinion. I then told Dr. S that Dr. R advised her to send Alex to Children’s Hospital to be admitted to the hospital. Dr. S seemed surprised, she said without anyone seeing him? I said yes then I went on to say that we went to Emergency at seven o’clock that evening where we saw an Emergency doctor. We then went to 3H at ten o’clock. I told her Alex had been put on an I.V. with antibiotics. She asked me when he came off them. I told her Alex came off them on Saturday afternoon. She said so that was four days ago? I said yes. I showed her what Alex was taking now. Dr. S checked Alex’s chest and said it was clear now. I told the doctor that Alex had a pain in his foot. She also checked that and said it was okay.
I told her that on the ward they thought Alex shouldn’t have had some or all of his Chemotherapy on the 2nd. Dr. S didn’t like that at all, she seemed to take offence. She said we don’t know when a child’s counts will go down and we can’t stop Chemotherapy every time it is low. I told her I wanted to avoid this in the future. I feel that Alex had his cough too long and I had told the clinic about Alex’s cough and it was just left. Dr. S went into a great explanation that a cough treated with cough medicine did little use or sometimes made it worse. She said you can’t treat a cough with antibiotics every time. It could be an irritation to something in the air, it’s very hard to know. I said I realize cough medicine doesn’t help much but two months with a cough is not good and I’m just not happy to see Alex having it that long.
Dr. S gave us our next appointment. She decided we should come again on Monday. Alex’s counts weren’t high enough yet.
I told Alex it was time for us to go Alex said go where? I told him home. Alex said but I want to play. I said well I’m going home.
We stopped at McDonalds drive-thru and took our lunch home. After lunch Alex asked me to play with him. I played for a little while then I typed in the journal while Alex watched TV.
Charlie came home at four o’clock. We had dinner at five thirty, after dinner I went out to the mall. I did some Christmas shopping and got Alex a few more things. So far there are two items that nobody has. I sure hope I can find them, I like to get Alex everything he wants.
I came home just after seven o’clock. I got Alex ready for bed after he had his snack.
I watched TV and went to bed at midnight after I had given Alex his medicine.

I woke up at ten o’clock. Alex and I had breakfast then I had a shower and got dressed.
We colored stickers and then it was time for lunch. After lunch we played school, Alex was the teacher and he said his name was Mr. Brown. I was a little girl named Nicole, I left my house (located in the spare room) said good bye to my Mama (who was also Alex). Then I went to the school room (located in Alex’s room) I sat down on the floor and when Mr. Brown said hello class. I said Good morning Mr. Brown. Then Mr. Brown got us to color, took us to the playground, we did more coloring then it was lunch time. Nicole had brought her lunch in her Ghostbusters lunch box. Nicole’s Mama had packed it. She put in a cheese and ham sandwich, an apple and tea. After lunch we colored some more and did our numbers then it was time to go home. Nicole told her Mama what she did at school and told her how much she missed her Mama.
Then it was Alex’s turn to be the child and I was the teacher. Alex said his name was Mr. Lee. I told him that kids don’t usually have a name like that. Alex said Mr. Bear has a name like that. We did the same things as we did before.
At lunch time Alex had his lunch in his Ghostbusters lunch box. He said it was just like the kids at school have. I had made it while Alex was playing so it was a surprise for him. He liked it especially with the juice in his thermos.
Charlie came home at four o’clock. We ate dinner at six o’clock. I did the dishes and cleaned up the kitchen. Then I went to Save-On-Foods to buy a few things. I wasn’t gone long I felt sort of funny. I’ve been feeling very tired this last week and I haven’t slept very well. I keep walking up wondering if Alex had his medicine.
When I got home Alex said he wanted chips and dip. Then I got Alex ready for bed. I watched TV, wrote in the journal and went to bed at midnight after I had given Alex his medicine.

Diagnosis: Leukemia; November 15, 1988
I woke up at ten o’clock. I feel so tired and I wish I could sleep longer. When I first woke up I was seeing double.
Mom phoned just after I had woken up and wanted to know how Alex was and if he had a temperature. I told her that Alex was fine and didn’t have a temperature.
Alex and I had breakfast, then I had a shower and got dressed. I did the dishes, the laundry, made our beds and tided up the house.
Alex wanted tuna fish sandwiches for lunch. So we had that, Alex likes if with celery. After lunch Alex watched TV while I vacuumed the house. Then I typed in the journal.
Charlie got home at four o’clock, I left to buy some groceries and I also needed to get out. It’s hard being confined in the house, knowing that you can’t go out because your child could get sick. I prefer staying home with Alex, his health is the most important thing to me.
I came home at four thirty and started to cook dinner. After dinner I cleaned up the kitchen and did the dishes. Then I went to K-Mart, it’s about the only place open besides London Drugs! I needed to get out of the house, Alex and I have argued quite a lot today. He seems to be trying to annoy me. He’s been making annoying noises and when I tell him to go into his room, he gets very annoyed.
Well it did me good to get away. It gave me a chance to think about things and calm myself down.
When I got home Alex asked if he could have chips and dip. I told him after he had that he had to get ready for bed. Alex said he would.
Alex went to bed at eight o’clock. I watched TV, wrote in the journal and Alex woke up at eleven o’clock. He was complaining that his foot hurt. I told Alex that I should put an ice cube on it since the last time he had this problem it helped. Alex said it would be too cold. I got a warm cloth and wrapped it around his foot. Alex wanted to have Tempra but I didn’t think it was a good idea. Alex went to bed when I did but came into our room at 12:30 a.m. crying. He said it still hurt. I phoned the hospital, the nurse in 3B said she couldn’t help me and there wasn’t a doctor on the floor. She then transferred me to emergency where I talked to a doctor but the doctor said I would have to bring Alex in. All I wanted to know was whether or not I could give Alex Tempra while he was taking the antibiotic.
I told Alex he couldn’t have Tempra because it wasn’t a good idea. Alex was pretty upset and cried. Then he went into his room and flung himself on the floor and screamed.
Charlie and I went to bed there was no way we could reason with Alex. He followed us when he realized we weren’t going to give in to him. We rubbed his legs but it didn’t seem to work.
Alex woke us up again at two o’clock, crying I gave Alex Tempra, I gave him only one instead of three. After I gave him the Tempra Alex fell asleep and we all got to sleep. I know the Tempra didn’t work that quickly, it was more of a security for him knowing that he had taken medicine.
