Diagnosis: Leukemia; February 29, 1988

I woke up at eight thirty. I got Alex his breakfast then I gave him a shower. Then I had a shower and got dressed.

We took Alex to the clinic for a blood test. It was so busy, there wasn’t anywhere to sit down. We went and sat out in the hall. Alex had his Jell-O then we went back inside. We had gotten there before eleven o’clock and Alex didn’t have his blood test until after twelve o’clock. Then we had to wait for Dr. S to talk to us. She said Alex’s blood count had come up but it wasn’t enough to put him back fully on his medicine. She said change his Methotrexiate to Monday. I told her it was already on Monday, she said that was okay keep it on Monday. We left the clinic. In the area by the elevators they were selling cookies. We bought some from the clinic section.

The we went to McDonald’s for lunch. We got home before two o’clock.

Alex and I played cars, games and wrestling.

I was feeling pretty down, it really worries me when Alex’s blood count is not high enough.

Marla phoned after five o’clock, she wondered how Alex was doing. Then she told me that Paxton does have Arthritis but it’s a lesser strain that they first thought. She said she was quite relieved that it wasn’t so bad. There’s nothing the doctors can do, they’ll give Paxton pain killers when it gets really painful.

We had dinner before six o’clock. Then we went downstairs and exercised.

Alex went to bed at eight o’clock. I watched TV and went to bed at eleven o’clock.
