I took Alex to the hospital this morning. Charlie is on afternoon shift so he stayed home with Samantha.

Alex had his blood test not long after we got there. We saw Dr. C, I asked her when Alex would go off treatment. I had been told the end of July which would make only a few weeks after the next appointment. Dr.C said Alex would come off treatment as of the next appointment, July 9 Alex would have to have an LP and a bone marrow test. That would tell them how Alex’s body was doing in response to the chemotherapy.

Dr. C asked if Alex had an sedatives. I said no he’s allergic to them, Phenergan anyways. She said there is a new sedative given by I.V. with any drug there are side affects. Children can feel drowsy, have slurred speech and in one case a child’s oxygen stopped. She said we gave him oxygen and he was fine. I wasn’t too thrilled about that. Alex already had an allergic reaction. I don’t like to take chances.

Dr. C said well you can make up your mind and let us know next time you come in.

Alex wanted to go to the cafeteria of course! Then we came back to the clinic.

Alex had his chemo then we were able to come home.

By the time we got home it was time for Charlie to get ready to go to work.

June 14, 1990

Samantha ate at eight, eleven, two and six o’clock.

Carter came over after school. He seems to be more mature than some of the other kids. What strikes me is his attitude towards other parents. He acts well mannered but when he thinks you’re not around he makes remarks and starts laughing. It’s just not something I feel comfortable with. This must be the first friend of Alex’s I haven’t cared for in that way.
