Diagnosis: Leukemia; May 6, 1988

I woke up at nine o’clock. I didn’t have breakfast as I wanted to go to Dyna-fit.

I went to the class. Alex and Charlie went to the mall. When I came home they were already home. I got changed and had lunch.

Alex and I left for the hospital at one o’clock. There wasn’t anywhere for us to sit when we got there. On the way in Alex told me he liked having a poke for the blood tests. Mary thought this was a bit weird.

Dr. S wasn’t there, we saw Dr. R. I told the doctor that Alex has a cold and a cough. She checked him over and couldn’t find anything unusual. She said he was okay and gave me his prescription.

When we went to get the prescription the pharmacist said that the doctor had changed the medication. Dr R had put Alex on liquid Septra instead of the pills which he has been taking. I told the pharmacist that Alex wouldn’t take it, so she phoned the doctor. I was able to get it changed to the usual pills. Then the pharmacist said the doctor had increased the dosage on 6MP. I told her I was going to check it to be on the safe side.

I had noticed on the prescription that the doctor had written that Alex was to take his Methotrexiate on Fridays instead of Mondays. I’m going to leave it on Mondays since Dr. S wanted it that way.

Lenore gave Alex his Vincristine. The first time she couldn’t get it in, so she had to take it out and put it in the other arm. Krisann came when Lenore was doing it the second time. Krisann was surprised that Alex was crying. She held his arm when Lenore was doing it and Alex started to kick the table. Krisann told him to stop that, she said you might kick my baby. Alex said what baby. I told him Krisann had a baby in her tummy didn’t he know that. Alex said NO!

We left the hospital at four o’clock. I took Alex to McDonald’s for dinner. He had fallen asleep on the way.

After McDonald’s Alex wanted to go to the mall. We found a Ghostbuster’s slide for his view master and I bought it for him.

I looked around for something else for Mom for Mother’s Day. Then we came home at seven o’clock.

Alex went to bed at eight o’clock. Mom left a message on the answering machine. I phoned her back and let he know wheat had happened.

I watched TV and went to bed a eleven o’clock.
