I woke up at nine o’clock. Alex and I had breakfast, then I had a shower.
At ten o’clock Marla phoned to ask if we were getting together today. I had told her to come over at the end of the week but I forgot that tomorrow is a holiday. I told her to come over, Marla said she would be over around eleven thirty.
I really had to run around to tidy up the house. They arrived at noon.
Lanie and Alex had a lot of fun playing together. Alex got Lanie to play Ghostbusters. They slimmed us and shot the ghosts.
They left around three o’clock. Paxton didn’t want to play with anything much. He kept on getting on Marla’s lap.
Charlie came home at four o’clock. We went out for dinner and went to the mall afterwards.
Alex and I played some games when we got home. I got Alex ready for bed at eight o’clock.

I woke up at eight o’clock. I made breakfast for Alex and myself, then I had a shower.
Mom phoned at nine o’clock and asked if I would be home. She said Dad would be over with a load.
I tided up the house and made some coffee. Dad arrived before ten o’clock, he left shortly afterwards he said he would be back. Dad came back around eleven thirty. He had to hurry back as someone was coming to look at the house at one thirty.
Mom phoned at one thirty to tell me they had cancelled five minutes before the appointment.
Alex and I played some games then he watched TV.
Charlie phoned in the afternoon to say he was working until six o’clock. Alex and I had dinner at five o’clock. Charlie came home at six o’clock. I got ready to go to the Parent Support Group meeting.
I got to the meeting at seven thirty. There was a doctor speaking tonight. He talked about radiation, how it depended on the circumstances if they used radiation. He said they use to use radiation all the time twenty years ago. He told us some facts which were pretty depressing. A lot of people asked questions but I didn’t have enough nerve to ask anything.
After the question period the doctor left. The group talked about some other business. The next meeting is on August 17 at the Red Cross Building.
I got home at ten thirty, I read for awhile before I went to bed. My mind was just buzzing.

We went to Marla’s for lunch. She had been to the dentist in the morning. I told her we could make it another day but she said it was okay. Alex and Lanie had a good time playing together. As usual I had quite a time getting Alex to leave. I had to phone Charlie to tape Double Dare. Charlie hung up without saying goodbye which isn’t unusual but it sure bugs me!
We left before four thirty. Charlie was cutting the grass when we got home. I started to cook dinner, we ate at six o’clock.

I woke up at nine o’clock, Charlie had gone to work. Alex and I got ready to go to McDonalds for breakfast.
After breakfast I phoned Shirley and asked her if it was okay if we dropped by. She said she was giving Monique a bath and that Brent was at Church. If that was okay to come over. I told Alex, Brent wasn’t home. Alex said that was okay since they always fight.
When we got there Shirley was giving Monique her bath which she got out of when Shirley came to the door.
Alex went to Brent’s room to play while we went to the kitchen. Shirley feed Monique and did some other things. I don’t know if she liked us dropping by.
Aaron and Brent came home before one o’clock. Aaron said Brent threw up at Church. He said Brent shouldn’t get too close to Alex but they were already playing together.
It was funny when they first got home. I had parked the car in the visitors parking, so at first they didn’t know we were there. Brent came in and yelled Alex is here. Then when Aaron came in he said I don’t believe it, it’s been a long time since you’ve been at our house. I told him we had been at McDonald’s and had decided to drop by.
Shirley said to Aaron I told you we were going to get together. He said yes, I know but I’m surprised to see them here.
Shirley and Aaron started discussing things. It doesn’t bother me to hear them fight. Sometimes it quite humorous to hear it. I have found that Shirley tends to pick fights with Aaron.
We left at two o’clock and came home. We got ready to go to Mom and Dad’s for dinner. Charlie came home at four o’clock we left at four thirty.

I woke up before nine o’clock. I phoned Consumer’s to find out if they had a certain swimming pool I wanted to buy for Alex. The Surrey store had it, Charlie said he wanted to go and buy it.
Alex and I had our breakfast while Charlie was gone. I had a shower and got dressed when Charlie got back.
Charlie went to Save-On-Foods to grocery shop after lunch.
Alex wanted to go in his new pool, Charlie had set it up before he left. I told Alex it was cold but he went in it. First of all he couldn’t stand to stay in it, but it didn’t take long for him to get use to it.
When Charlie got back I put the groceries away and he watched Alex. They came in about fifteen minutes later. Charlie had told Alex he should invite one of his friends over to join him in the pool.
Alex asked me to tell him Kurt’s number, he wanted to invite him over. Alex dialled the number and talked to Davis. First he just said Hello then I told Alex to tell them who he was. Alex did and still didn’t say anything, I told him to tell them why he was calling. Alex asked to speak to Kurt. They went to get him but they told Alex he was outside. Alex said he wanted Kurt to come over to his house to play. Davis told Alex Kurt would be over soon.
I phoned back and talked to Allison. I told her Alex got a new pool and he wanted Kurt to play in the pool.
Davis brought over a bowl of strawberries when they came. Kurt didn’t stay very long. It was the first time Kurt had been around Charlie at our house. Kurt was only here about half an hour when he started to cry that he wanted his mother. I tried to coax him to come into the house and play but he said he wanted to go home.
Alex was really upset that Kurt was going home, he started to cry as well. Kurt did come into the house to play and eat then Alex and I took him home.
I explained to Alex that Kurt wasn’t use to being away from his mother. By that time Alex had calmed down and he seemed to understand why Kurt was so upset.
After we came home Alex went back out to the swimming pool.
We ate dinner at a Won Ton House, I gave Alex his medicine before we left. We came home and Alex rode his bike outside.
I got Alex ready for bed at nine o’clock. I watched TV. and went to bed at eleven o’clock.

I woke up before nine o’clock. My back was sore from moving Mom and Dad’s stuff into the future bathroom in the basement.
Alex called me to come into his room, he wanted to get dressed.
I made our breakfast and Alex watched TV. I had a shower and got dressed. We went to Allison’s at noon for lunch. Alex had a great time in the swimming pool. Kurt and Alex had a water fight. Alex got Allison wet when he went to get Kurt! Alex thought that was really funny.
We left at three o’clock. Erin was due to come to Allison’s soon and I felt it would be better to stay away from her since she was sick.
Alex watched tv when we got home, I wrote in the journal.
Charlie got home at four o’clock. We decided to go to Metrotown and eat there as well. I finally got a pair of shorts! We looked at swimming pools for Alex. I wanted to get a big one for Alex.
We came home around eight o’clock. Alex rode his bike for awhile outside. I wrote in the journal.
I got Alex ready for bed at nine o’clock. I wrote in the journal some more. It’s ten o’clock almost anyways, I’m going to have a bath and go to bed.

It’s Charlie’s Birthday today!
I woke up before nine o’clock, had a shower and got dressed. Alex was awake by that time and asked me to get him down. There is no way that I can pull him off the top bunk. He’s just gotten too heavy for me.
We both had breakfast, then Alex watched TV. I did the dishes, made the beds, cleaned up the bathrooms and made some cupcakes.
Mom and Dad came over with a load of stuff to store in the basement until they move to the new place. They stayed for about an hour. I had made coffee for them and Dad had a cupcake when they were ready.
When they left I phoned Allison to see if she could still look after Alex while I went to the dentist. She mentioned that Erin was coming over earlier as she was sick with the flu. I told her I had better not bring Alex over as I didn’t want him to get sick. She was very apologetic but I told her it was okay.
I phoned Marla to see if she was free but she wasn’t. Marla said she could take Alex with her but I told her I didn’t want her to change her plans, that I would take Alex with me.
We left for the dentists office at one o’clock. Dr. E said my tooth on the right would have to be refilled. The nurse then did some x-rays. Alex and the nurse went out of the room during the x-rays. Then I went and had my teeth cleaned. Alex was thoroughly bored, he kept asking me when we would be going home. Alex grabbed my feet and twisted then, grabbed my leg and held my hand. Meanwhile I’m having my teeth cleaned!
We left the dentists office at three o’clock. Alex watched Ghostbusters when we got home.
Alex and I wished Charlie Happy Birthday when he got home.
We went to P.J.’s for dinner and came home.
Alex and I decorated a cup cake and put a candle on it. We sang Happy Birthday, Alex helped Charlie blow out the candle.
I cleaned up the basement and vacuumed the floor in the evening.
I got Alex ready for bed at eight thirty. I tided up the house, had a bath and went to bed at ten o’clock.

After lunch I vacuumed the house. Alex watched TV most of the afternoon, he said he wasn’t feeling well.
Charlie got home at four o’clock. Charlie asked me to go and get a 6/49 ticket. Then he said to wait as he wanted to reserve a movie for tonight. I took Kelly for a walk, I received a parcel from Naomi. As soon as I got in the door, Charlie handed me my purse and told me to hurry up and go. I told him that was too bad that I wanted to open the parcel. It was Alex and my birthday present. We got a shirt each and Alex also got a pair of socks.
I left to get the 6/49 tickets. Charlie told me to go buy the tickets first since they’re only on sale until five o’clock.! I got the tickets, some groceries and the movie.
Charlie had made Ranch Style Rice when I got home, but it wasn’t ready. I decided to have Fettuccine. Alex kept on complaining that he was hungry and he couldn’t wait, then he fell on the floor.
We all ate around five thirty. After dinner I did the dishes and watered the plants outside.
Alex and I played a game before he went to bed. Alex was asleep by eight thirty. Mind you he got up and out of bed a couple of times. He told me he couldn’t sleep. I told him just to lie down on his bed. I really don’t know what the trouble is with him, he can hardly stand to be away from me.
I wrote in the journal and watched the movie, Throw Momma from the Train!

I woke up before nine o’clock I checked to see if Alex was awake but he was still asleep. A few minutes later Alex was calling for me.
I made Alex his breakfast then I phoned the hospital to see if they had the results of Alex’s tests. I spoke to Janice and she said she would phone me back. Janice phoned about an hour later. She said Alex didn’t have the mumps he had an isolated virus.
I had a shower and got dressed in between waiting for the call back from the hospital.
We had an early lunch, then we went to Lions Park. Alex didn’t want to stay very long. I don’t think he was feeling that good. Afterwards we went to Save-On-Foods to buy Kelly some dog food. Alex said Kelly didn’t have any bones, so we had to buy him some!
We went to Safeway afterwards, I still needed three bedding plants for a hanging basket. We got home around two o’clock. Alex sure looked tired.
I did some work at my desk, while Alex watched TV.
Charlie came home at four o’clock. He said he wanted to go out for Chinese Food. Alex said he wanted to go to McDonald’s. We went to a Chinese Smorgasbord which was pretty good. We went to London Drugs and came home.
Alex played in the spare room when we got home. I wrote in the journal.
I got Alex ready for bed at eight thirty. He had fallen asleep between four and five o’clock, so he wasn’t all that tired. Alex kept on getting out of bed and saying that he needed more hugs. I was writing in the journal while Alex was getting in and out of bed.
At eleven o’clock I got ready for bed. Just as I’m getting into bed, Alex came into our room. He said he couldn’t sleep in his own bed he wanted to sleep with us. I told Alex he had to at least start in his own bed. I told him a story about his dolls and got him to go back to his bed. Then I went to bed as well.

Alex did end up having something to eat but it wasn’t for lunch!
After lunch we went to London Drugs and a couple of other places. We were going to go to McDonald’s but it was almost four o’clock. Alex said he would rather go home and watch Ghostbusters. When we went to put it on it wasn’t on. Alex was really mad!
Charlie didn’t get home until six o’clock tonight. Alex couldn’t wait for Charlie to get home, he wanted to have dinner earlier. Alex and I ate dinner at five o’clock.
I did the dishes after dinner. Charlie got home in time to watch the News!
I went outside to water the hanging baskets and flowers. Alex came out as well but when I went to go to the backyard, Alex said he wanted to ride his bike in the front. I told him he couldn’t that I had to go to the back to finish watering the garden. Alex brought his bike from the basement into the garage. He said to me HaHa I’m going to ride my bike! That made me mad, Alex knows I don’t like him saying Haha or Nananana! I told Alex to get into the house right now and to go to his room. We had quite a shouting match. I’m sure the neighbours loved to hear it!
Charlie took Alex outside, I didn’t go out I wanted to be by myself.
They came in before eight o’clock. I got Alex ready for bed at eight thirty.
I watched TV and went to bed at ten o’clock.

I woke up at eight o’clock. Alex was still in bed, I started to make breakfast. Alex woke up and we had our breakfast.
Alex wished Charlie a Happy Father’s Day with a little coaxing from me.
After breakfast I had a shower and got dressed. I tided up the house and vacuumed it. Then I made a cake for our dessert for tonight.
Charlie and Alex left at two thirty for Lanie’s Birthday party.
I iced the birthday cake for Charlie then I got changed and did some last minute things around the house.
Mom and Dad arrived before four o’clock. We went down to look at the house on Mara Drive. They really like it, they’re making plans as to where everything will go.
When we came home I gave them something to drink. Then I made a salad, before I had finished Charlie and Alex came back form the party. Alex said he had a good time.
We had dinner around six o’clock. Charlie, Dad and Alex took the dogs for a walk.
They left at eight o’clock. Charlie helped me with the dishes.
Alex went to bed at nine o’clock. I finished cleaning up and went to bed at eleven o’clock.

I woke up at nine o’clock. Alex and Charlie were already up. Charlie left shortly afterwards to go to the bank and London Drugs.
I had breakfast and got dressed. I started to make banana bread but I didn’t have enough flour. When Charlie got home I asked him to buy some flour much to his disgust!
The neighbourhood party is tonight and we’re bringing banana bread as the community dish.
When Charlie got back I finished making the bread then I cooked the chicken we were to bring for our dinner.
Charlie and Alex decorated his bike for the children’s’ parade.
By the time I finished cooking and got dressed it was almost four o’clock. We went outside to wait for the parade to start. Once the parade started Charlie stayed with Alex. I walked with Allison, Davis, and their kids. The parade route was down Westlake up Lostlake then down to Goldstream. Then we came home and got our chairs and food. We sat with Allison, Davis, Gilda and Frank.
I found it a bit difficult since I don’t like to mingle too much. After awhile everything settled down, everyone got into their own little groups.
I talked to Gilda for awhile, she lives beside Allison. Actually two houses from Allison. Gilda is a nurse, she works part-time at Lions Gate Hospital. She’s working tomorrow, so she left quite early.
Alex had a really good time running all over the place. He had two plates for dinner and about five different things for dessert.
It was funny to watch the kids, they stayed around the desserts most of the evening.
We left at nine thirty, along with Allison. Alex was mad that we went home but he hadn’t had a nap so I figured he would be really tired.
When we left Alex said we would have to do that again soon, it sure was fun. I said I guess you liked me not telling you to come back all the time. Alex said yes and you didn’t see me either. I told him I knew where you were most of the time.
Mac and Rayon seemed surprised we were going home so early but their daughter is a lot older.
I got Alex ready for bed then I went to bed as well. I was absolutely exhausted!

I woke up at nine o’clock. Alex wasn’t up yet so I had a shower and got dressed. I made Alex his breakfast and tided up the house.
Marla phoned and said they would have to leave at two o’clock, she had to pick something up. She wondered if it would be alright if they came earlier.
They arrived before eleven o’clock. Alex was really excited to see Lanie. Marla gave Alex a big car, small cars, Mickey Mouse shoes, Ghostbusters stickers and a pencil set.
Marla talked a lot about her trip to England. She was annoyed with her brother. Her brother came to see James two days before they left. She said since she came to Canada twelve years ago, her brother hasn’t phoned her once. It looks like they won’t hear from her for awhile.
After they left we went to the mall to pay the Woodward’s and Bay bill. We got home just before Charlie got home.
We went to Burger King for dinner then we wandered around the mall. I still didn’t find any shorts.
We came home around eight o’clock. I was feeling pretty lousy. Once I got Alex to bed I went to bed as well.

I phoned Allison before eleven o’clock and asked if Kurt wanted to come over. Alex and Kurt played in the backyard. I was surprised that Kurt would want to come over without his mother, but he was okay. He followed Alex everywhere which was really cute.
We took Kurt back around noon and came home.
After lunch we went to Toy City, I bought Alex a Slipn’ Slide. As soon as we got home Alex wanted to use it. I t took me quite awhile to understand the directions. It didn’t help when Alex kept on talking to me. I told Alex to stay in the house until it was ready and I would call him. I told Alex to run and slide on his tummy. Alex tried to but he said he didn’t know how. Alex kept on sliding on his knees, but it seems when I want him to do something new even if he knows how to do it he won’t.
We ate dinner at six thirty. After dinner we all went outside. Charlie cut the grass, Alex rode his bike and I watched Alex.

By the time I had finished cleaning it was two o’clock. Alex watched some TV while I did some writing.
It was really weird, last night I dreamt that Marla was going to phone on Monday to tell us she was back. Then at lunchtime she phoned to say they were back. She said the kids were good on the plane but they didn’t sleep at all!
There were other kids on the flight and their parents didn’t bring any toys to amuse them. I thought that was pretty dumb. What did they expect the child was going to do! Marla said she gave some of the kids play dough. She gave a sticker book I had bought them to a girl behind them. She had cried and cried and it kept her quiet for a couple of hours.
I phoned her back before dinner to invite her over for lunch on Friday. It seemed when we talked earlier she wanted to get together.
Marla said she had quite a time with her Mom, she wouldn’t let her discipline Paxton. So now she’s having quite a time getting him to go to bed.
We ate dinner at six o’clock. Alex wouldn’t eat dinner. I’ve found since he was taken off Prednisone his appetite has decreased dramatically.

After lunch we went to the mall and bought Dad’s Father’s day present. Then we took the video back and went to Mom and Dad’s new house. Mom wanted to know what kind of drapes were in it.
When we got home I phoned Mom and told her that the house had sheers in the living and dining room. The rest of the rooms just had valances.
We ate dinner at six o’clock after dinner Alex rod his bike outside for awhile.

I had a shower and when I was finished Alex woke up and was calling me.
Alex doesn’t seem to be feeling too good today. He wanted me to cuddle him for quite awhile.
We left at ten thirty for McDonald’s. Then we went to the mall, we bought a Father’s Day and birthday present for Charlie. We took back the video and rented Transformers II for Alex.
Alex watched the movie when we got home. Kurt came over at one thirty to ask if Alex could come to play. I told him to ask his mother if he could come in to watch a movie, Transformers.
When Kurt came over Nora called over say that they couldn’t have Alex over as they were painting. She said maybe this afternoon they could play in the sandbox.
I went through the files on my desk while the boys played. They fought quite a bit Kurt wanted to play with the truck Alex had. I told Alex to take turns and not to fight over it. Alex shared the truck after awhile, I thought that was really good of him.
Charlie came home at four o’clock. I told Kurt to go home and to tell his mother he was home. I watched to make sure he went home.
We went to Hon Lok for dinner then we went to the Chew’s but they were on their way to the hospital. Beverly had a baby girl on the 6th by Caesarean section, they named her Betty.
We got home around seven thirty. Alex rode his bike for awhile then we came in.
Alex went to bed at nine o’clock. I had quite a fight with Alex, he refused to go to bed. He finally fell asleep at ten o’clock.

Alex woke me up at eight thirty, come and help me, Mama! I then had a shower and got dressed. I made breakfast for Alex and myself.
Here is a story by Alex: Mr. Bear and Me
He jumped over my head and 3,000 ice cream cones. He ate 3,000 popsicles.
That’s the end of the story because Alex doesn’t want to write anymore.
Alex watched TV while I tided up the house.
Allison phoned to tell me to come over after three o’clock. I did some more things around the house then we left.
Alex stayed at Allison’s and I came home. I watched tv for about half an hour then I started dinner. Alex had said earlier that he wanted to have Soufflé again soon. That’s what I started to cook then when Charlie came home he said he wanted Scalloped Potatoes to go with the Soufflé, so I made both.
I went to get Alex at five o’clock and Charlie went to the bank.
The Soufflé was ready before Charlie got home so Alex and I ate dinner. Alex fell asleep fifteen minutes after dinner. I put him on his bed.
I went to Lougheed Mall while Alex was asleep. I figured it was a perfect time. I looked at some sandals but I couldn’t find any I liked. I stopped at the video store on the way home and rented La Bamba. We watched the movie when I got home.
Alex woke up at nine o’clock, he sat we us to watch the movie.

Charlie went to bed before Alex and myself. I put Alex to bed at eleven, tided up the house and did the dishes. Alex was asleep at a quarter to twelve then I went to bed.

I woke up at eight o’clock, I made breakfast for Alex and myself. I wanted to give Alex a bath, but he didn’t want to have a bath so he had a shower. Alex had skinned his knee and he didn’t want to get it wet. He said it would really hurt.
I got us ready to go to Allison’s, we went there at ten thirty. Alex brought over a story he had told me to write.
Alex and Kurt played in the sandbox. We had to leave right after lunch as Alex had his last Dinosaur class. Allison said we could come back tomorrow since Alex complained he didn’t want to leave.
When we got to the class one of the mothers had made a really nice Dinosaur cake. It looked like it was a professional cake.
When I came to get Alex, Cindy had made the kids a plate with grass, leaves, a rock and a dinosaur.
Alex watched TV when we got home. Allison phoned after four o’clock, Kurt wanted Alex to come over. I had to tell Alex that Kurt wanted him to watch Ghostbusters with him to get him to go.
Mom phoned and said they would be bringing dinner over so not to cook anything. I made a butter cake for dessert.
Charlie phoned, he has to work late tonight.
Mom and Dad arrived at five thirty. Allison brought Alex back shortly afterwards.
We started dinner since we weren’t sure what time Charlie would be home. Charlie arrived back at six o’clock, he had a shower before he joined us for dinner.
Mom and Dad left before seven o’clock. They must have been tired, looking at all the houses. They didn’t like the house on Lost Lake near the corner of West Lake Gate, it was $169,000. They saw the house on Westlake it was $168,000. Then they went to Mara Drive and saw a house they really liked for $178,000, it was a show home. Mom said they put an offer in on it.
Their salesman phoned and spoke to Dad, he told Dad he would put the offer through tomorrow morning. I couldn’t understand that as someone else might put an offer through tonight but I didn’t say anything.
After they left we went to see the house. It’s really nice. When you walk in there’s an entrance way and stairs going up on one side and down on the other. To the left is the living room. Going down the stairs turning to the left is the dining room and to the right off the dining room is the kitchen and family room. The kitchen is really big and so is the family room. Off the family room is the study and beside it is the laundry room and bathroom. Upstairs has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The ensuite is huge it has double sinks, a bathtub and a separate shower. There is also a deck off the family room.
We came home and watched TV. I was going to have a bath but Alex came running after me. He said Don’t leave me, don’t leave me. I need a cuddle, then he started to cry. I sat with him on the bed and held him. I asked him why he had to be around me all the time. He said he didn’t know.
Alex went to bed at eight thirty but he didn’t fall asleep until after nine o’clock. He kept on asking me for a cuddle.
I watched tv and went to bed at ten o’clock.

I woke up at eight o’clock. We had breakfast, I made bran muffins. Alex watched TV while I had a shower. I cleaned the bathtubs and toilets.
After lunch we went to the last class of mini-sport. I went to the bank and paid some bills.
Before we went to the class, Alex rode his bike and fell off and skinned both knees. I had gone into the house to get something, Alex had come in but when I came out he was already out. I heard him crying and Rayon saying it’s okay Alex I’ll get him.
The first thing that came to my mind was he was bitten by a dog, probably Sam the dog next door. I looked down the street, Kelly was at the end of the block. Alex was just sobbing and pointing at Kelly. I called for Kelly to come back and he did. Then Alex came running back to me crying, he said why did Kelly run away. I told him Kelly loves to run around. Alex was almost hysterical, he said he thought Kelly was running away and he wasn’t going to see him again.
When the class finished we went home and Alex had a snack and watched tv.
Mom had left a message and I phoned her back. They’re looking at house tomorrow in Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam. I told her they should stay for dinner but she said they probably would go to McDonald’s.
Charlie came home at four o’clock and I went to Save-On-Foods to get a few groceries.
We ate dinner at five thirty then Alex and I went outside. Charlie came out after six o’clock to wash his car. I went to the backyard to finish planting the bedding plants.
Alex and Erin came into the backyard to play then her friend came as well. They both left after awhile.
Alex and I came in at seven thirty and had our dessert. Alex went to bed at eight o’clock.
I did the dishes and wrote in the journal. It’s ten o’clock I’ll probably to bed in an hour or so.

Alex woke me up at eight o’clock. I got up and made our breakfast. I watched a movie I had taped for an hour then I did four loads of laundry. Alex played in his room and the spare room while I vacuumed the house. I also changed the sheets on Alex’s bed. I finished doing some of the things around three o’clock. I finished watching my tape.
Kurt came over at five o’clock to invite Alex over to his house but Alex said he wouldn’t go. Nora was waiting outside, I yelled over that Alex wanted Kurt to come to his house. Nora asked if it was okay. I said yes.
Charlie came at four o’clock and left to buy a take-out. Alex didn’t want to eat dinner now because Kurt was over. Charlie and I had a quiet dinner which was nice.
Nora phoned before six o’clock and asked me to send Kurt home.
I went outside after dinner to do some planting. I carried the flower box, that were filled, up to the sundeck. That wore me out! Alex came out as well and did some digging under the sundeck.
We came in at seven thirty. Alex had dinner then he went to bed.

I woke up at ten o’clock, feeling so much better from all that sleep. Alex wasn’t up yet, so I had a shower and got dressed.
Alex woke up, I gave him a bath and got him dressed. Alex kept on crying, he said his hand hurt that it had a cut on it. I put a band-aid on it which made Alex feel a lot better.
I made breakfast and finished getting ready to go to the hospital. Alex had lunch at noon then we left.
Joan the receptionist put us into a side room, we weren’t allowed into the clinic. Alex wasn’t too happy about that he wanted to play with the toys. The room had some books, so I read Alex about four books. Then Alex said he wan hungry, I told him I didn’t want to leave him alone. Alex said he could stay by himself that he wanted something to eat. I talked to Evelyn and she said does he want to stay by himself? I told her he did that he was really hungry. She said well if he needs someone, tell him to stick his head out the door and to call for Evelyn or Joan.
When I came back Alex said what took you so long. I was scared being by myself in this room. I told him I just got what you told me to get.
Earlier Heather had come to ask how Alex was. She said it looked like Alex’s face was still swollen. I told her I wanted her to check Alex’s mouth, it looked like there is a lot of flesh. Heather checked Alex’s mouth, she said it was probably from the swelling.
Then Mary came to do a blood test. Heather came back to take Alex to be weighed and measured. She said Alex had to wear a mask. When Alex came back he said he didn’t like wearing it, it was hard to see.
Dr. S came to check Alex. She thought that Alex’s face was still swollen. Dr. S said she hadn’t gotten all the tests results back yet, but part of it came back saying non active for mumps. The funny thing is that Heather had said the test came back saying that Alex had a virus but at that time they didn’t know what kind of virus. Mumps are suppose to be a type of virus.
I told Dr. S that Alex has had a cold since the middle of April and when was it going to go away. She said well it couldn’t be a cold maybe he has a allergy to something, ask your doctor for an antihistamine. I told her Charlie had allergies.
Then I asked her when the next two appointments would be and I explained about us wanted to go on our holidays. She said we’ll figure that out next month. Then I asked her if it was alright for Alex to go to the United States. She was close to being very rude. She said as long as it’s in the month between appointments, there is no problem, now if he’s sick that’s different. Her attitude sure stinks!! I said that’s fine I just wanted to make sure.
Alex and I went to the pharmacy. They told us to come back in 15 or 20 minutes. We walked around the hospital, I didn’t feel like staying in the room and coming back. It’s hard being in the room with Alex, he seems to be quite tired and very irritated.
After we got the prescription we came back to the room. Lenore came to give Alex his Chemo. She got some bubbles for Alex to blow and while he was blowing she put the needle in. Alex cried after it was in and after he had looked. It seems that once he saw the needle in he realized that it would have to hurt. Lenore said you cried after you looked, so it couldn’t have hurt.
I picked a prize for him then we went home. We got home at four fifteen.
Charlie cooked dinner tonight, I sure didn’t feel like cooking dinner. After dinner I cleaned up the kitchen and did the dishes.
Then we went to Dairy Queen, Charlie had a coupon for two free sundaes. We went to Save-On-Foods to get some more bedding plants. We got home around eight o’clock.
Alex went to bed at nine o’clock much to his disgust.
I wrote in the journal and watched TV. I went to bed at ten thirty.

Alex woke me up at eight o’clock. I had stayed up until one o’clock last night watching the Children’s Telethon. I found it quite interesting seeing some of the people from the hospital. Dr. R and Sheila were on at around midnight. Sheila looked really nervous and Dr. R looked very serious as usual!
I was so tired when I got up I felt really dizzy.
I had promised Alex I would take him to McDonald’s for breakfast. I thought they only had breakfast until ten o’clock, so we left at nine thirty. When we got there they had breakfast until eleven o’clock. After breakfast we went to Save-On Foods to buy some bedding plants.
We came home and Alex watched a tape on TV. I tided up the house a bit. Mom had left a message on the machine. I phoned her back she invited us for dinner.
Kurt came over before three o’clock. They played in the spare room while I made some icing. I let the kids lick the icing off the beaters. I made a cake to take over for dessert.
Nora came to get Kurt before four o’clock.
Charlie came home shortly afterwards. We got ready to go.
Jeff was there when we got there. Martina was at home with the flu.
Charlie was tired so we didn’t stay very long. When we got home we all went to bed.

I went to check on Alex he was just getting up. I made our breakfast then we got dressed. Charlie went to Save-On-Foods to grocery shop. Alex and I went outside to clean up under the sundeck. We want to put a sandbox there for Alex.
Charlie came back and came outside to help us. I also planted some bedding plants into the front garden. We came in at two o’clock. I had a shower and got dressed.
Alex heard the ice cream truck go by, Charlie and Alex went in the car to catch it. Unfortunately they couldn’t find it. Alex was really mad, I told him he could have a Nanaimo bar since they didn’t get any ice cream.
I made Alex have a bath which he was annoyed about. Then when I asked him to come out he said he didn’t want to. I said first of all you didn’t want a bath and now you don’t want to get out.
Today Alex seems to be really cranky. He seems to need more rest and he told me he can’t have too many things to do!
We went to Shanghai for dinner, we were going to go to the Chew’s but Alex said he didn’t want to go there. First of all because Robert never shares any toys and secondly they don’t have any games.
We came home and took Kelly for a walk much to Alex’s disgust. He didn’t want to go so I said stay home, I’ll take Kelly myself. Alex decided he wanted to go as well, but on the way back he took off even though we told him to stop. When we got home I told him he had to go to bed. Alex started to cry but I got him ready for bed anyways. He finally fell asleep at nine thirty.

Alex woke me up at six thirty, he wanted to watch the movie Charlie rented for him. Alex also wanted a piece of toast.
I went back to bed, when Alex finished watching the movie he came into bed with me.
We got up at nine thirty. I made breakfast, had a shower and got dressed.
After Alex had watched the movie for the third time I gave him a bath and got him dressed.
We were almost ready to go to the hospital at eleven forty five. Then Heather phoned from the clinic to tell me that Dr. S said there was no point in bringing Alex in today. She said Alex wouldn’t be able to have chemotherapy. The test they had done on May 24 had shown that Alex had a virus but they didn’t know if it was mumps or not.
Heather said that the swelling from the mumps should go down in ten days to two weeks. I said it’s been more than two weeks now. Heather said has it been that long since you came in. I said it started on the 16 of May. I also told her that ever since Alex’s 6MP was increased he hasn’t felt that great. Heather said well the test does show a virus. I said oh I guess that doesn’t mean anything then. My doctor said Alex doesn’t have the mumps. Heather was quite surprised about that. She said Alex was to come in on Monday at one o’clock.
I was rather annoyed that they had left it so late. In fifteen minutes we would have left. They could of at least phoned us earlier in the morning.
I told Alex and he said they sure are dumb! Can I still have my hospital prize? I told him he couldn’t have it until he went on Monday. He was really mad that he didn’t get a prize. I told him that he could have a prize form Grandma’s basket. Alex picked a mini puzzle which he was quite happy with.
We had lunch and I wrote in the journal. At two o’clock we returned the movies then we went to the mall.
We came home at three thirty and Alex watched TV.
Charlie came home from work at four o’clock. We went to White Spot for dinner, Alex got two more dinosaurs. The waitress said they’re having them until September, so they’ll probably repeat the series. The one dinosaur Mom got from Kamloops is different from the one’s they sell down here.
After dinner we went to London Drugs and came home. Alex said he was too tired to walk in the mall.
Alex went to bed at eight o’clock. I watched TV and went to bed at eleven o’clock.

Diagnosis: Leukemia; June 2, 1988
I woke up at nine thirty, Alex was calling for me. He said he wanted me to get him down from his bed. I told him he could get down himself. I was going to start his bath. Alex said I can’t I’m too hungry. I said you have to have your bath first.
I got Alex dressed after his bath and gave him his breakfast. I had my breakfast, a shower and got dressed.
After lunch I took Alex to his Dinosaur class. Cindy said to Alex we missed you yesterday. I thought that was really nice of her to say that. While Alex was in the class I went shopping. Alex said he wanted a color car as a hospital present. I went to three stores before I was able to find the color he wanted.
After the class we came home. They made dinosaur puppets and painted their clay project.
Alex played in the spare room for an hour or so. Then he wanted a snack.
Alex is feeling much better today, back to his old self. He had slept all most fourteen hours last night.
I was rather upset the other night when I checked Alex’s mouth. There seems to be a lot of flesh inside his check on the right side.
Charlie came home at four o’clock. We ate dinner at six o’clock.
After dinner Alex and Charlie went to Pharmasave. I exercised while they were gone which was quite nice.
Alex went to bed at eight o’clock. I wrote in the journal and went to bed at eleven o’clock.

Diagnosis: Leukemia; June 1, 1988
I woke up at eight thirty. The house was a disaster and Allison was coming over at ten o’clock. I made Alex breakfast, have him a bath before breakfast, got him dressed, changed his sheets and did his laundry. Then I made our bed, put away my laundry, tided up the house and did the dishes.
Allison phoned to make sure we were still getting together. I told her Alex wasn’t going to class today but if they wanted they could still come at ten o’clock.
When they arrived I was making icing for the cupcakes we had made last night.
Allison was quite annoyed with Kurt, she’s trying to toilet train him and she isn’t having too much success. She had changed his clothes three times by ten o’clock. I said maybe he’s not ready and it might be a good idea to stop for awhile and put him in a diaper again.
Allison put Pearl to bed in our room then I started to make lunch.
Alex wasn’t in a very good mood, he watched TV most of the time Kurt was here.
Allison and the kids left around two o’clock. They left Allison’s blanket and musical pillow behind so we brought it over.
Then we went to get the mail. Blair sent a new list for Alex’s schedule which was good, since the new schedule should start on Friday.
Alex watched TV and I wrote in the journal. Charlie came home at four o’clock. We ate dinner at six o’clock.
After dinner Alex and I played video games then we went downstairs to exercise.
