Diagnosis: Leukemia; July 2, 1988

I woke up at eight o’clock. I heard Alex talking to Mitch. I told Alex he shouldn’t have woken Mitch up but Alex said he didn’t. Mitch said Alex said Mitch, Mitch until he opened his eyes!

I took them to McDonald’s for breakfast. Alex had hot cakes and hash browns. He finished his hash browns first then started on his hot cakes. Alex hadn’t eaten very much when he decided that he wanted another hash brown. I told him he couldn’t have another one as last time he had gotten two and he didn’t eat both of them. Alex said he wasn’t leaving McDonalds until he got another hash brown. Mitch thought this was really funny.

Alex then flung his fork at me and put syrup on my shirt. I slapped Alex’s hand and told him not to do that. Alex said it didn’t hurt. I told him Auntie Joan use to grab Mitch on the shoulder and did he want me to try it. He said go ahead.

We finally finished breakfast, Alex didn’t get another hash brown. Alex and Mitch played on the slide. Then we went to Lougheed mall for an hour.

When we got home Mitch played video games and he also played with Alex on and off.

We ate dinner at five thirty. Charlie and Mitch left after six o’clock to see a wrestling match. Alex wanted to go too but when we told him he couldn’t go he started to cry. Charlie had told him he was taking Mitch to school and that they would be back later. After they left Alex said are they going to wrestling? I told him yes, I don’t believe in lying to him. I said are you upset about that and he said yes.

We played some puzzles before I got Alex ready for bed. I watched TV and got ready for bed. Before I went to bed, Charlie and Mitch came home. Mitch was really excited about the match. He said he lost his voice he yelled so much. He told me everything about the match.

We went to bed around midnight. Mitch asked if he could stay up and watch wrestling. I told him that was okay.
