Diagnosis: Leukemia; September 14, 1987

Alex woke me up at eight o’clock. I got him dressed and Charlie got up as well. I had a shower and got dressed. I didn’t have breakfast, I have a stomach ache. I tided the house, did Alex’s laundry, and did the dishes.

By that time it was time to get ready for Kurt’s birthday party.

Alex really enjoyed himself, most of the kids were too young for him. They were all around two years old. Alex and Kurt were the oldest. All the mothers were there, it gave me a chance to see the other mothers in the neighbourhood.

We left after one o’clock. Alex was excited when we came home. He ran to Charlie, and said see what I got Pa, a firebird. It sure sounded cute.

Alex had his medicine and watched TV the rest of the afternoon.

I wrote in the journal for about an hour. I watched TV for about half an hour then I started dinner. We had dinner at five o’clock, I gave Alex his medicine at dinner as he looked like he was going to fall asleep soon.

After dinner I watched TV while Alex played with his cars and trucks. Alex fell asleep at six o’clock, I put him into his bed at six thirty and changed his clothes.

I watched TV and did my knitting. Alex woke up before eight o’clock and I couldn’t get him to go back to sleep until ten thirty.

I’m now finished writing in the journal. Before that I put away Charlie’s clothes from the laundry, swept the kitchen and hall floor and tied up the house.

It’s almost eleven o’clock I’m going to go to bed soon.
