Diagnosis: Leukemia; September 9, 1987

I woke up at nine o’clock, I could of slept longer but Charlie was making so much noise I knew he wanted me to get up.

I had a shower, got dressed then I had breakfast. Charlie went out and came back at 10:30 a.m. I went out to the mall at eleven o’clock. Before I left Charlie said bye to Alex and Alex said bye Pa. I told them I’m going by myself. Alex kissed me good bye.

I when I came home, I had lunch. Charlie and Alex were outside cutting the lawn.

Alex was really cranky after lunch, he was ordering me around. He wouldn’t ask me properly for a drink. I was fed up with his attitude, so I told him he had to have a nap. He still has a cold so I guess that’s why he’s so cranky. Right now it’s really hard to know.

Alex slept until three thirty, Charlie went to work before three o’clock.

I watched TV and wrote in the journal while Alex had his nap.

I didn’t have dinner with Alex. I’m not feeling all that great, it’s the stress of everything that’s going on. Alex’s illness I find is very stressful, it’s something I can’t get out of my mind. Then when family problems occur and both sides tell me their sides, it puts a lot of pressure on me which nobody seems to realize. I’ll work it out, I’ll just feel sick over the next few days.

I had a snack at seven o’clock. Alex dropped a cup of coke on the floor just as I was going to clean it up some kid rang the doorbell. I didn’t bother opening the door as they always try to sell us a subscription. I continued to clean up the coke and he starts ringing it about four times. I went and opened the door but he was already on his bike. He thought it was a big joke, I slammed the door.

If I don’t have enough problems with some jerk ringing the doorbell. Give me a break!

I finished cleaning the carpet and wrote in the journal some more.

I gave Alex a bath, did the dishes and watered the hanging baskets outside. I got Alex ready for bed and told him if he picked up his toys I would read him a story. It took him about half an hour to do it. I read Alex a story and he went to sleep.

I wrote in the journal some more. I’m going to read then I’m going to go to bed. It’s now almost ten o’clock.
