Diagnosis: Leukemia; September 22, 1987

Alex woke me up at seven o’clock, he wanted Kelly in his room. I put Kelly in his room but then Alex said he wanted to get dressed. Alex said come on Mama I want to get dressed. Charlie got up and got him dressed, I went back to sleep.

I got up at eight o’clock and had breakfast. Charlie was putting the blind up in the kitchen window.

At ten o’clock we went to the mall. We were surprised to see that there was a Hutch apparell beside London Drugs. We each bought a pair of pants.

Alex and I are having a birthday celebration for Kelly on Thursday, so I bought a cake tin and cake mixes.
We had lunch in the mall then we went home.

When we came home Alex wanted to dig in the garden. I told him he could do it later, and as usual he started to argue, scream and yell. I feel that I’ve had my limit of his rant and raving. I just can’t deal with him, I need a day to myself, but Charlie doesn’t understand that, he thinks my job at home is so easy. He doesn’t see what I really go through. It’s so different when there is only one parent there.

Charlie got him inside and Alex started complaining because I told him I was going to clean the walls. He said I can’t play by myself! Then he threw himself down on the floor and started to kick the wall.

I got changed and I asked Charlie to give Alex his medicine. As usual Charlie asked what medicine. I wish he would learn the schedule.

I cleaned the walls in the house and cleaned both bathrooms. I had a shower, got dressed and sat down and watched TV.

We had dinner at five o’clock. Before I started cooking Alex said he wanted Potato chips before he had his dinner. I said no, and he was absolutely furious. Alex started biting the box and the look on his face was pure anger. He looked so funny, it was hard not to laugh!

After dinner I told him we would go outside but I wanted him to pick up his toys first. It took him the longest time. Alex rode his bike outside while I swept out the garage. We came inside around seven o’clock. Even when we were outside he told me how he was going to ride his bike in the dirt and he was going to ride way down the street. When it told him not to do theses things he started to argue with me. I’m really quite sick of arguing with him all day long, it’s really getting ridiculous.

When we came in I gave Alex a bath and got him ready for bed. Alex was asleep by eight o’clock.

I did the dishes, my knitting and watched TV.

I’m going to bed soon.
