Diagnosis: Leukemia; March 10, 1989

I woke up after nine o’clock. Alex was already up and hiding under the dining room table. We had breakfast then I had a shower and got dressed.

My breakfast didn’t sit well in my stomach. I had peanut butter toast and it keeps on coming back. I had two pieces but I think it was too much as well.

Kurt phoned at nine thirty. Alex told him he hadn’t had breakfast so he couldn’t play. When Alex hung up I told him why didn’t you tell Kurt you could play after you had breakfast. Alex phoned back to tell Kurt that but Kurt said he could play tomorrow not now. Alex was mad when he got off the phone.

Alex got dressed, watched COPS and played. I watched tv and relaxed.

Shirley phoned at eleven o’clock to tell me Brent has scarlet fever. Luckily we haven’t seen him but I did see Shirley on Monday. She said their doctor said we couldn’t get it unless we came in direct contact with Brent.

I phoned Children’s Hospital to make sure. I talked to Heather, she said it would have to be direct contact. She also said Alex is on Bactrim which stops infection like that.

I’m concerned about the baby. I did have contact with Shirley so it makes me wonder. Then this afternoon my throat started to bother me which is one of the symptoms. Of course Alex has a cold and a cough so it could be from him.

After lunch I asked Alex to put away his toys. It took him an hour and with a lot of complaining.

I phoned Dad at three o’clock but he said he would phone me back. He phoned back fifteen minutes later. Dad said he had been waiting to talk to Dr. J. The clinic phoned and said Dr. J said the doctors at the hospital would look after his PT level.

Dad seemed quite upset that they would do it that way. What he wanted to know was how much he should take during the weekend. In a few days it went from 12.5 to 17.0. He was concerned that it would go too high.

Charlie got home after four o’clock. We went to McDonald’s for dinner. Charlie wanted to go to the mall but I didn’t feel up to it. I was too tired.

We watched tv when we came home. I went to bed at eight o’clock. Charlie got Alex ready for bed.
