Diagnosis: Leukemia; April 1, 1990

Samantha woke up at seven o’clock. After I fed her I had my breakfast.

I washed Alex’s comforter, laundry, and bath mats. I tided up the house and finished setting up the table with Alex’s help.

At noon I phoned Morgan. She said she was going to bring Patrick over at one o’clock. I said we have to be at the caboose at one o’clock so could you bring Patrick to our house at twelve forty and pick him up at four thirty? She said okay.

Then we got ready. I put Sam in her purple dress which looked really cute, she even has socks to match. Alex said Samantha you look so cute.

Patrick arrived at that time, Tony had brought him over. We went to the cars, we both took our cars so we could take the kids back to our house.

Alex and Patrick talked about Turtles all the way there. They were pretty excited to say the least.

The caboose was empty when we got there so we were able to go in right away. The hostess’ name is Samantha, I thought that was pretty funny.

All the kids were on time except for Lannie and Paxton. I phoned Marla to ask where she was. She said James had just phoned her to tell her it was daylight savings time. She said she would be there as soon as possible.

Nora stayed for a little while. I asked her about Liana. She said she lives on Lost Lake Drive. So she’s look after Dr. F’s receptionists’ baby. She said she isn’t much bigger than Samantha and weighs 15 pounds. Liana is 3 pounds heavier and six weeks older than Sam. Liana is eating solids, has been eating Pablum for four weeks now. So she didn’t start pablum until she was six months old.

Nora left after about half an hour. Marla came at one forty. Edward came with Monique but they didn’t stay very long. Andrea was at home with company. She’s due in the middle of the month.

Marla said it really threw her when James phoned. She had their stuff in the dryer so they had to wear something else.

The kids were pretty noisy at one point they scared Samantha. She started to cry, they had just gotten too noisy.

The hostess took them to the kitchen after they had their lunch. She also played a game with them.

We left at two thirty. Brent with Marla. Marla said thanks a lot Charlie, I’ll get you for that! She told me later Brent told her how poor they were that they had no money. I found he really got on my nerves. He would run all over the caboose. I would tell him to stop and he would say he wasn’t doing anything.

They sat down at the table when we got home. Brent knocked over his drink before I could get the cake to the table. Some of the kids actually had two pieces of cake. Miriam claimed kids don’t eat bought cake that it’s a waste. They almost ate all of the cake.

Alex opened his presents. He opened ours first which he seemed to really like; the Turtle Sewer. Then Samantha’s wacky wind up Raphael and Beebop. Grandma and Grandpa gave him Turtle sheets, jeans and a shirt. Patrick gave him the Turtle plunger, Carter gave him dinosaur stencils and markers, Brent gave him money, Rick gave him ring raiders, Lannie and Paxton gave him Turtle sticker book and wonder women, Kurt gave him Superman and Wacky wind up Raphael, Monique gave him a song book and cassette.

Then I took them downstairs to watch The Land Before Time. Most of them complained they had seen it. Brent complained the most, he said he had seen it five million times. I didn’t want to put on the Turtle tape. I thought everyone would like it. Oh well you can’t please everyone.

Alex wouldn’t go downstairs, I told him everyone was waiting and to go downstairs. Alex started to cry, I took him aside and told him to stop it. He said he wanted to open the sewer. I said no some of the pieces might get lost. He could open something else. It took quite awhile but he finally decided on something.

It ended up that Lannie and Paxton were the only one s watching the movie. I guess it wasn’t the best party but unfortunately I didn’t have the energy to make it better. I was looking after Samantha and feeding her.

Marla and I had a good time talking. People came to get their kids at four thirty or four forty five. Marla left as well.

Shirley didn’t come until five o’clock. I had started to clean up. She didn’t make any move to leave so we asked her to stay for dinner.

They left at seven o’clock.

I washed Alex’s turtle sheets, so he could have them on his bed tonight.

Alex went to bed at nine o’clock and was really bad. He said to me his party was really stupid. I said what? Alex cried and cried. He said he really wanted Rat King. I said it wasn’t in the store so how were people going to buy it? I was really annoyed he would say such a thing. Alex said he was sorry but I was still mad. I went to a lot of work and look at the thanks I get!

I went to bed at eleven o’clock after I had cleaned up.
