Diagnosis: Leukemia; October 4, 1989

I woke up at eight o’clock. I heard a door slam. I went to Alex’s room and asked him what had happened. Alex said Pa yelled at him. I said what did you do? Alex said I don’t want to tell you.

Alex had a shower and got dressed. I had a shower after Alex got dressed and had my breakfast. After breakfast Alex asked me to draw all the turtles on his shirt. I really didn’t feel like it. I’m still very concerned about the baby.

Alex and I went out at ten o’clock to the mall. Alex bought a new car with the money he earned for picking up his toys. I bought two crib sheets and a birthday card for Allison.

When we came home Charlie went out to buy Chow Mien and Rice Noodles. Alex had a chicken drumstick, rice and a bowl of ice cream. I wrote in the journal.

Alex had chow mien and rice noodles before he went to school. Charlie took Alex to school I had lunch then I went to Mom and Dad’s. Mom took my blood pressure, it was 135/80. I told Mom it probably went up because of what Dr. C had told me.

I picked Alex up from school. One of the other mothers asked me if we had found a house yet. I told her no but we were moving in with my parents. My parents are going to Arizona soon for six months. She said oh that’s good at least you don’t have the pressure of finding another place.

I went into the school as I had to return an envelope. Alex and I came home. Alex watched his shows on tv, first there is Turtles then Mario and another Turtles. I wrote in the journal, wrote to Allison, Maureen and Naomi.

Kurt and Patrick came over to play. Alex hasn’t played with them for quite awhile.

Kurt was really interested in the baby. He kept asking Alex when it was going to come. Finally he said come on Alex lets go ask your Mom when it’s coming. I told Kurt in two weeks that’s fourteen sleeps if the baby in on time. Kurt said you sure are fat. I said what you’re not suppose to say that! That’s rude, isn’t it Alex? Alex said yes it is. Kurt thought that was a big joke.

Kurt and Patrick went home before six o’clock. We ate dinner after they left. After dinner Alex watched Cosby of course. Alex didn’t want to put away his toys just yet, he said. I told him he had until 7:15 p.m. then he had to do it. Alex had ice cream and chocolate milk. I don’t know where he puts it.

Alex was putting away his toys. I told him at 7:25 p.m. that Cosby would be on in five minutes. Alex had a fit I’ll miss it he said. If you keep on complaining Alex you won’t see it at all. I told him. If only he had listened to his Mama and done it earlier he probably would have been finished.

I’m writing in the journal now, it ‘s seven thirty. At eight o’clock I’ll get Alex into bed and watch tv. I’ll probably go to bed at ten o’clock.
