Diagnosis: Leukemia; October 5, 1989

I woke up before eight o’clock. Alex was already having a shower. I had a shower after him then I got dressed and had my breakfast.

Charlie and Alex left for the hospital just after nine o’clock. I left after ten o’clock to see Dr. Be, the gynaecologist. I had to wait quite awhile there were two other people ahead of me. Dr. Be asked me a few questions. I told him why I thought my blood pressure was up. He was shocked when I told him about Alex. He said that’s terrible. Then he examined me and took my blood pressure.

Dr. Be said to come into the office when I was ready. He told me in the office that if I didn’t have the baby by October 20th he would induce the labour. He explained how it is a hormone that comes from the uterus and makes labour come on usually. I told him Dr. C said that the baby’s growth had slowed down. He told me the baby’s head is engaged and when measuring the baby it would appear to have slowed down in growth. He said the baby can’t be measured at this time. The baby has enough fluid around it which is good. Your blood pressure is nothing to worry about, your blood pressure may go up and down normally. I want you to have a blood test twice a week this will check for toxaemia. I want you to rest as much as possible. He said also I want to see you next Wednesday.

I went to London Drugs to buy a few baby things then I went to Save on Foods.

When I came home I was sure hungry, I hadn’t had my morning snack. Even after I ate I still felt shaky.

I picked Alex up from school then we went to Pharmasave. I didn’t realize I had almost run out of needles. I also got the change of address from the post office. It now cost $10, it sure has changed over the years. Mom said it use to be free!

When we came home Alex watched tv. I cleaned up the house. We left at four forty five, Mom invited us for dinner. We stayed until seven o’clock, I was too tired. I probably did too much today.

Alex had a snack when we got home then he got into his pajamas. We watched Cosby of course, Alex can’t miss that show. I wrote in the journal.

Alex used the speak and read before he went to bed. Alex was in bed by nine o’clock. I wrote in the journal, it’s now nine thirty, I’m going to be soon.
