I woke up at eight o’clock. I had a shower and got dressed. Charlie went out to look at a house on Hawser street. When he came back we all went to the doctors office. Dr. C wanted to meet Charlie before the baby comes.
Today we didn’t have to wait any time to go into the examining room. Alex lost ¾ pounds which is surprising. He probably lost it when he wasn’t eating very much in September. My weight stayed the same.
When Dr. C came in she thanked Charlie for coming. She’s still very concerned with me not putting on any weight, my blood pressure and the baby’s growth slowing down. I told her Dr. Be said my blood pressure is nothing to worry about and the baby is engaged that’s why the growth seems to have slowed down. Dr. C didn’t seem to believe him. She said well Dr. B seemed concerned enough to phone me. Dr. C said the ultra sound would show how everything is. I was hoping I wouldn’t have to go for the ultra sound. It’s very uncomfortable especially when I have to drink so much water.
Dr. C said she would be away Saturday and Sunday at a convention where she would be getting an award. She said Dr. Ba would do the delivery if I went into labour. She said she wanted me to see him next Friday when she would be on her Obstetric course. I told her I would be seeing Dr. Be on Wednesday. She said then you don’t need to see Dr. Ba.
Dr. C had examined Alex first, he sure was funny. He seemed to be embarrassed with Charlie there. Alex shut his eyes really tight and was making a funny face. I told her Alex had lost ¾ of a pound but she didn’t seemed to be too concerned. Dr. C said Alex sounded congested. I told her he was probably getting another cold from school.
Dr. C said my blood pressure was 120/80. She asked if Dr. Be said to resume normal activities. I said no he wants me to rest. She said well if there isn’t any concern than he would have told you to resume activities.
I told Dr. C, Dr. Be is having me go for a blood test twice a week to check for toxaemia. She thought that was strange. She thought he would be doing a different test, which would indicate toxaemia.
After we left the doctors office, we went to Safeway to buy milk and cheese.
When we got home Alex had his lunch and in no time it was time to go to school, Charlie took him.
I got ready to go to Royal Columbian Hospital. I drank a tall glass of water before I left. I couldn’t believe I was taken right away. Last time I had to wait 1 ½ hours. I did have to wait quite awhile in the changing room.
The technician said the baby’s head is very low. I told her the obstetrician said the baby is engaged. She said they wouldn’t be able to tell that. She asked me if there was a question of the baby being breach. I said yes there is. She showed me the baby’s spine, bladder, heart, the cord and the baby’s head. The technician had a hard time getting a proper picture of the head. She pushed down so hard that I thought I was going to go into labour. It was very excruciating. She asked me to roll on my side to try to get a picture of the head. She told me to wait in the changing room but not to change or go to the bathroom, she wanted to get with the head of the x-ray department first. She came back about ten minutes later. She said it was okay I could get changed.
When I left the hospital I sure felt sick. I don’t know if it was from the ultra sound or from being too full from the water just after having lunch. I came home and had my snack then I went to Mom and Dad’s.
Mom had picked Alex up from school. I figured I wouldn’t make it there in time. Alex looked very pale and he said he had a headache. I talked to Mom while Alex was upstairs with Dad.
Mom said Blair was born breach around eight o’clock at night. The doctor said she was a parachute jumper as she had the placenta wrapped around her hand. She was born a couple of weeks early. Mom wanted to have the baby before Dad went back on duty; he was serving in the Air force during WWII. The doctor had told her to take Cod Liver Oil to bring on the labour. Mom did take two doses and that’s why Blair was breach.
Jeff was two days late, she said the longest two days she ever had. Mom said all day she had cramps and realized this was it.
Mom had more trouble in labour with Joan. Her blood pressure was high 200/100 she saw stars during labour. The problem was when she got to the hospital. The nurse said you’ll be lucky to have this baby tomorrow morning. Mom had told her the baby was coming. You would think they would listen to her, especially as this was her third pregnancy. She started to have the baby and of course she was ripped. The doctor, actually the intern had been waiting all night to do a delivery. He was really mad.
Mom said when she was pregnant with me, she didn’t see the doctor until she was three months pregnant. The doctor sent her to two doctors to see if she should keep the baby. Mom said she went but she had already made up her mind to keep the baby. She told the doctors she wouldn’t trade the last child for anything. They had wanted to have the next one earlier but it didn’t work out. She realized they would be far apart in age but hoped later on they would be compatible. One doctor said he felt it would be too risky for her health. While the other doctor felt since she made it through the last pregnancy she should be okay again. Her blood pressure was high again, this time during labour she saw colored lights. Her labour started in the afternoon while my grandmother was down for tea. Actually mom’s water broke. She said Dad phoned to say he was working overtime. She told him not to as it was time. My grandmother wanted her to go to the hospital right away but she said she was going to wait for Dad. She said Blair, Jeff and Joan were all there. They looked at her like she was going to explode. They were all relieved when Dad took her to the hospital. Mom said they sat in the parking lot for quite awhile. Then she realized Dad was getting nervous so they went in. I was born at night as well.
Alex and I went to McDonald’s for dinner. Alex didn’t eat very much. Alex was mad that we didn’t stay very long but he didn’t look very good.
After we got home Kurt phoned. Alex went over there to play. I didn’t want him to play, I would have rather he rested. There was no reasoning with him, I don’t feel like arguing with him.
Alex came home at six thirty, he said they were going to have dinner.
At seven fifteen Alex said he was going to build Lego while he watched the second Cosby. I told him he could watch Cosby but he wasn’t going to build Lego. Every time he does that he says when the show is over just a little while longer. Then I have a hard time getting him to bed. Alex was mad he stomped off to his room and slammed the door. That really made me mad. I told him to go straight to bed, he wouldn’t be watching Cosby. We had quite a discussion. Alex kept on telling me he would be watching Cosby! He finally realized how mad I was. Alex got into his pajamas, it ended up Alex watched Cosby. I just couldn’t get him into bed without watching Cosby. Alex gave me a hug after Cosby was over. He said thank you for letting me watch Cosby. Alex went right to bed.
I watched tv, Alex made me so mad that I couldn’t do anything else. I went to bed at eleven o’clock.
