Diagnosis: Leukemia; January 20, 1989

I woke up at ten o’clock. I sure feel tired. Of course it doesn’t help that Alex sleeps in our bed practically every night. Last night Alex came to our room at four o’clock. I brought him back to his room. Alex stamped his feet and slammed the door. There was no way he was going to sleep in his room. I said there is no way I’m sleeping in our room with you and Pa, I’ll sleep in your bed and you can sleep with Pa. Alex said okay and went to sleep with Pa. I thought Alex would say no, the little sneak.

We had breakfast then I had a shower and got dressed. I phoned Mom to tell her I wasn’t going to the hospital. I was too tired and I thought they needed the time together.

I tided up the house and did the dishes. Charlie had gone shopping but he came back around noon.

I was so tired I went for a nap at one o’clock. I woke up around the time Charlie left for work. Alex was watching his tape.

I phoned Dad at the hospital to see how he was. He said he was feeling okay. His leg still is hurting and is having trouble sleeping at night.

Mom phoned shortly afterwards to tell me she was home. I told her we were going to McDonald’s and did she want anything. Mom said she didn’t.

We went to McDonald’s at five o’clock. There was hardly anyone there, it sure was unusual. After Alex had played in the playroom, we went to see Mom.

Mom said when she got home from the hospital she felt she needed to do something for Dad. She decided to call the amputee association. She talked to a women who said they would send someone to talk to Dad.

We came home at eight o’clock. Alex was tired and complaining as usual. Alex went to bed at nine o’clock. I watched tv and went to bed at eleven o’clock.
