Diagnosis: Leukemia; January 21, 1989

I woke up at eight o’clock. I had a shower, got dressed and had my breakfast. Alex was watching tv when I left to pick up Mom. We got to the hospital at eleven o’clock.

Dad was in a good mood. His leg is still bothering him but then the lower part of his leg isn’t getting enough blood.

Joan came around noon. Shortly afterwards Dad asked Mom to take us to the cafeteria to buy us lunch. It was a good idea as it helped Mom to explain to Joan exactly what Dad was faced with.

Mom and I stayed until three o’clock. Joan was still there when we left. I wondered how Paul made out with the kids. Joan said she hadn’t been on her own for 19 months.

I told Mom when we got home Charlie wants to go to the Auto show. Mom said send Alex down and I’ll look after him while you’re there. I said no that’s okay we’ll bring him with us.

When I got home Charlie wanted to leave right away but I wanted to have a rest before we left.

We went to Shaghai for dinner then we went to the car show. We saw Jolene and her friend Marc. I don’t think Marc wanted to have too much to do with us. He didn’t talk to us at all. They left after a few minutes. Charlie said he saw Marc pull Jolene away.

Alex really enjoyed the car show he went into almost every car. We were able to get some more posters for his room.

We got home at ten o’clock. Alex got ready for bed even though he didn’t want to go to bed. I went to bed at eleven o’clock.
