Diagnosis: Leukemia; January 5, 1989

Alex slept in our bed last night, he said he didn’t want to sleep in his own bed. Charlie got Alex his own pillow so I wouldn’t have to share my pillow with him.

At nine o’clock Alex said he wanted to get out of bed. He came back shortly afterwards, to tell me he wanted to have breakfast. When I didn’t move Alex said it’s morning aren’t you going to get our of bed. I said I guess I’ll have to!

I made Alex and my breakfast, Alex said what are you having? I said I’m having toast. Alex said again? I said yes again I like it okay!

After breakfast I had a shower and got dressed. I wrote in the journal for awhile.

At noon I told Alex to go have a nap. Alex was made he had to have a nap. I told him he had been cranky all day and cried so easily that he needed to have a nap. At one thirty Charlie said that Alex was out of bed. I went into his room and told him to get into bed. Alex said he had slept already and wasn’t tired anymore. I said okay but I don’t want to hear you crying or getting mad. Alex said he wouldn’t do that.

Alex had a shower and got dressed. We played school, Alex was the teacher, Mr. Paulin. Alex picked out his own name. I was Amanda a little girl in Mr. Paulin’s class. We colored, did speak and read, had lunch, played then I went home to my Mama.

After playing school we watched TV and I wrote in the journal.

We had dinner at five o’clock. After dinner we played snakes and ladders and video games. Then Alex had a snack and got read for bed. Alex was in bed by seven thirty. Alex said he was really tired.

I watched TV and wrote in the journal. I’m going to bed soon.
