Diagnosis: Leukemia; September 19, 1989

I woke up at eight o’clock. I had a shower, got dressed and had my breakfast.

Every day now I have to count how many movements the baby has. Within fifteen minutes or half an hour the baby moves two times. I remember when I was pregnant with Alex he didn’t move around that much. This baby is a lot more active than Alex.

I went to the diabetic clinic just after ten o’clock. There were quite a few people there. I had to wait quite awhile for the nurse, doctor and dietician. The nurse said I lost weight which is different. Ann said my blood sugars were good and I didn’t have too much longer to go. I said it sure isn’t what I expected. She said you’ve been coming for a long time.

When I saw the doctor, she said you’re doing well and your blood sugars are good. Dr. B said you’re passed the time when the blood sugars get worse. Usually between the 30th and 35th week the blood sugars get worse and insulin would be needed at that time. Dr. B said not saying they won’t get worse but we’ll keep an eye on them. Keep testing two days of every week. She said the only other problem to watch out for is water retention and high blood pressure. She said you’re doing well right now.

I saw Mary, she said you lost weight. Are you eating less? I said no but I’m more active much more active than I was at the beginning of my pregnancy. Mary said I think we will just keep things the way they are unless you feel you need more food. I said no I’m fine with the diet.

Then I had to wait to have my non stress test. All this waiting sure is hard to stand.

When I had my non stress test the baby moved about thirty times and I had one contraction. I didn’t feel the contraction at all.

By the time I left it was twelve thirty. It’s a lot better having a one o’clock appointment. It took only an hour but a morning appointment takes two hours.

I went to the mall afterwards, I had lunch and did some shopping. I got home at one thirty.

Alex watched tv while I did my knitting.

We ate dinner at five o’clock. The food didn’t agree with me. I had diarrhea. Some of the chicken rice wasn’t that hot. I reheated it up once I realized it. I hope I don’t get food poisoning. I remember years ago I ate rice with chicken flavouring and got food poisoning. I thought it was plain rice but Charlie had added chicken stock. I was really sick for a day or two.

After dinner we watched Cosby of course! Alex went to bed at eight o’clock. I watched tv, wrote in the journal and I’m going to bed soon.
