Alex woke us up before seven o'clock. We had to go to the Cancer clinic at nine o'clock and then we had to go to the hospital at 10:30 a.m. The nurse at the Cancer ward had made the appointment so we didn't know what to expect or even where to go.
We saw a doctor there and all he wanted to know about was if Alex was going to have radiation. I was told by one of the nurses at the Oncology clinic that he wouldn't, so I told him. He said he would phone and find out. He came back and said Alex wouldn't have radiation which I was glad of since they would have to put radiation at his brain. I feel the brain is something people shouldn't fool around with.
He said they would be using a drug that is put into the spinal fluid. They have to use either Methotrexate or radiation to stop the cancer cells from going into the brain.
We had to sign some papers for them to use the medical information and for them to perform certain operations. The doctor said some operations or procedures are performed at the Cancer clinic that cannot be performed at the hospital. We left before 9:30 a.m. It was too early to go to the hospital so we went to McDonald's for breakfast.
We got to the hospital before 10:30 a.m. Alex had his shot not long after we got there. He had a blood test, then the doctor saw him. I told the doctor he still had the cough and that I thought there was something wrong with his thumb. The doctor gave us a prescription for Bactrim for his cough and some cream to put on his thumb. He said his thumb was infected. He said this thumb would have to be bandaged so Alex wouldn't suck it. Alex was very upset that he couldn't suck his thumb. The doctor told him he could suck the other thumb but Alex told me it doesn't have the same kind of skin.
I went and got the prescription and came back. We had to stay an extra half hour as they thought maybe Alex was allergic to the shot. Nothing happened so we left after one o'clock.
As soon as we got home Charlie got ready to go to work. He left at 2:30 p.m.
Alex was hungry as usual, so I got him something to eat. We had dinner around five o'clock.
Shirley came over around eight o'clock. Alex was having a funny craving, so I asked Shirley to pick some things up. Alex had salt and vinegar chips that Shirley brought. He went to bed around nine o'clock.
Shirley left around 10:30 p.m. I got ready for bed after eleven o'clock.
