Alex had decided last night that he wanted to sleep in our bed, so Charlie slept in Alex's bed. Alex woke me up around 7:30 a.m. saying "I'm wet and I'm cold, get me dressed." He then told me to hurry up and he started to cry.
I got him cleaned up and dressed, then he told me he wanted a salad. I told him we didn't have any salad but we had tomatoes and cucumbers. So I put the tomatoes and cucumbers in a bowl with some salad dressing. He ate about half of it and then he had a bite of the danish and then Alex wanted some rice noodles and beef. Later on he had some potato chips.
I started getting ready around nine o'clock. We left for the hospital at 9:45 a.m. and we brought Alex some rice and vegetables. He wanted to bring half a bag of potato chips.
Alex had a shot just after we got to the hospital. An hour later Dr. R came to look at Alex. I told him Alex's thumb didn't look very good. The doctor looked at it and said his thumb would have to be opened as there was too much infection in his thumb. We went to the isolation room and Dr R lanced Alex's thumb and got the infection out and cleaned it. The nurse put a bandage on his thumb and Dr R gave Alex a pair of tweezers and scissors. The nurse gave us some gauze, bandages and some salt water. We're suppose to change and clean Alex's thumb every day.
Alex went back to lay down on one of the beds. I went to buy my lunch, before I could buy it Charlie and Alex came and got me. It was time for Alex to have his I.V. Alex started to cry he said it'll hurt. I told him yes it would hurt but just for a minute. The nurse said it's very important to tell them it does hurt.
The nurse, Heather got Alex to blow bubbles while he had the I.V. put in by Martina. I don't think she put it in very well as he complained the whole time it was in.
The social worker stopped in to see us. Her name is Janice, she seems like a very nice person. She is very caring and listens very well.
We left the hospital around 1:30 p.m. We dropped by Mom and Dad's as Joan was staying there, while Mom and Dad looked after Mitch and Karen. Joan had a present for Alex. We left at 2:30 p.m.
We got home just after three o'clock. Alex and I had something to eat. I started cooking dinner around four o'clock, for Alex. Shirley came over around 5:30 p.m. to stay with Alex so Charlie and I could go out for dinner.
Charlie and I left before six o'clock and went to the KEG for dinner. We had a really nice dinner. It sure was nice to get out we really needed the break.
We got back before eight o'clock, Shirley left shortly after. They were going away for the weekend.
I gave Alex his medicine and we had rented some movies so Alex watched a movie in our room. At eleven o'clock Alex decided he wanted macaroni and cheese. I told him I wasn't going to make it and he then had a temper tantrum. Alex settled on cream of chicken soup. We then got ready for bed.
