Diagnosis: Leukemai; June 16, 1987

I woke up before eight o’clock. I didn’t sleep very well, I woke up at three o’clock and Alex had wet through to the sheets. I asked Amber to help me take off Alex’s t-shit as it was soaked. She changed the sheets as well.

I tossed and turned almost all night. Finally I fell asleep and then I felt someone hitting me. Alex was upset as the nurse was changing his diaper. They have to measure Alex’s urine. He has to void so much every so many hours.

Alex started throwing up just when breakfast came. He wasn’t actually throwing up it was more like he was spitting up. Around 8:30 a.m. the nurse brought Alex his Bactrim. About 5 minutes later he threw up the medicine.

We had to wait all morning for the doctor to do Alex’s spinal tap. Alex was really good through out it. We came back to the room and Alex fell asleep. Dr B said Alex could go home after lunch.

We left the hospital after 1:30 p.m., we had to go to the clinic to make an appointment for tomorrow. We got home around 2:30 p.m. and Alex had fallen asleep in the car, I put him to bed.

Alex slept until four o’clock, he said his stomach hurt so I gave him some gravol.

We had dinner at five o’clock, Alex ate about half of his dinner. Alex played with his new toys and watched TV.

Jolene phoned and invited us to Carrie’s birthday party. We’ll have to ask the doctor if it is all right. Jolene said she has chronic Bronchitis and that she has been on a new medication since last week. She said by Saturday she’ll have been on it for seven days which is what the doctor told her to do. So she’ll stop taking the medication on the weekend.

Alex and I had a race to see who could finish the puzzle first. Alex beat me, he thought that was great. He can do the big puzzles by himself but he always asks for help.

We played three card games and then Alex went to his room to play. He’s not tired, I guess he’ll go to sleep quite late.

I wrote in the journal for about an hour. I’ll go to bed soon, once Alex is asleep!
