The alarm went off around 7:30 a.m., I got up and had a shower. I felt tired, I find it really difficult getting up so early. I got dressed, had breakfast and got an overnight bag ready for the hospital. I don’t think Alex’s blood count will be up but we have to be prepared. We left the house after 8:30 a.m. we have to be at the hospital at nine o’clock.
We got to the hospital after nine o’clock. It sure was busy in the clinic. At ten o’clock Alex had an I.V. started, the nurse said Alex’s blood count was up. The just have to wait for the platelet count. We had to keep asking the nurses what was happening. I asked Lorraine, she’s a new nurse if Alex would be getting chemotherapy today and would we be seeing the doctor. She said I would expect so. Finally around noon I asked Krisann and she said Alex’s platelet count was up and he would be getting chemotherapy. They sure don’t tell us much at the clinic. After one o’clock I asked Krisann how long it would be for the chemotherapy to come. She said it should be in soon.
Charlie left at 1:30 p.m., he had to go home and get ready to go to work.
Chemotherapy finally started at two o’clock. Alex fell asleep. Krisann asked me what time we had left when Alex had Cyclophosphamide the last time. I had told Lorraine that I thought Alex should be admitted as he wasn’t drinking very much. I told Krisann this but she didn’t seem to know anything about it. Later she told me she had told Evelyn the receptionist to phone admitting. Krisann said I should go to admitting to sign the papers since Alex was asleep.
When I came back from admitting, Krisann said in about ten minutes she would take us upstairs. Dr S came and said Alex’s platelet count was 101,000.
We went upstairs after three o’clock, most of the rooms were occupied. We went into the baby room, room #5. Alex wanted to go to the playroom right away. We went there and then he had a nap. Alex didn’t get his dinner tray until 5:45 p.m. He ate about half of his dinner. Mom and Dad came up, they brought me dinner. They left around eight o’clock.
Alex was wide awake, I had bought him a puzzle since I didn’t bring him any toys. Mom and Dad brought a parcel that a friend of theirs in the states sent Alex. He got magnetic blocks and a 3 way tumble set. Alex wanted to play with his new toys.
We finally got to sleep around ten o’clock. I was really tired and Alex was talking a lot.
