Diagnosis: Leukemia; June 27, 1987

I woke up at seven thirty and as soon as I got out of bed Alex woke up. We had waffles for breakfast and Alex watched cartoons on TV.

Charlie woke up at nine o’clock. When I talked to Mom last night she said Dad wanted to help Charlie with the drywall. I left a message for Charlie last night to phone them but he never did. I asked Charlie when he woke up, he said he didn’t need help. So I phoned and told Mom, Charlie didn’t need Dad’s help as he wasn’t ready to start the drywall in some spots.

I went to the mall around ten thirty. I bought Alex a pair of sandals. I couldn’t find any thongs. I bought Mom’s birthday present as well.

I came home around noon before I could come into the house Alex came running to tell me Grandma and Grandpa are coming! He sure was excited. Charlie said he was ready to do the drywall.

Charlie went out to buy a few things, he invited Mom and Dad for dinner.

Naomi sent us a present. Alex was excited, he got a transformer plane. Naomi sent me a memo book and earrings.

I tided up the house and got changed. Mom and Dad came around one o’clock. Charlie came back shortly afterwards.

Dad and Charlie went downstairs to do the drywall. Mom, Alex and I stayed upstairs. Alex wanted all my attention, he was driving me crazy. I feel terrible saying that.

I took Alex’s temperature at two o’clock and it was 38.31C He was very excited to have Grandma and Grandpa come over. Alex hasn’t had any visitors lately as a lot of his friends have had colds, chicken pox or tonsillitis.

We went for a walk, I thought it might calm Alex down a bit. I think we pooped Mom out we went along Mara drive.

I took Alex’s temperature at four o’clock and it was 38.59C. I phoned the hospital and talked to Sophia, a nurse. She said his temperature was too high. Sophia said we can do two things. One you can bring Alex to emergency or two you can wait and talk to a doctor. I told her I would wait for the doctor to phone. Sophia wasn’t too happy about that it seemed like she wanted us to come in.

The doctor phoned, Dr F. I told him Alex had a temperature and that he had finished his ARA-C shots. I also told him it had happened before. Dr F said it was normal to have a temperature after the ARA-C shots. He said it should last for twenty four hours and if Alex still had a temperature tomorrow I should phone back.

We had dinner around six o’clock. I took Alex’s temperature again at 6:55 p.m. and it had gone up to 38.88C It sure is worrisome when Alex’s temperature goes up like that.

Charlie and Dad went for a walk after dinner. I got Alex ready for bed and gave him his medicine. His temperature was 38.56C at eight o’clock. At least it has gone down a little bit.

Mom and Dad left at nine o’clock.

I took Alex’s temperature at 10:30 p.m. and it had come down quite a bit. It was 37.64C

We went to bed after eleven o’clock.
