I woke up around nine o’clock. Alex was still asleep, he had come into our bed in the night. I had breakfast and then Alex woke up around ten o’clock. He said he was tired and wanted to stay in bed. Alex asked me to make him some cereal. I brought him cereal and juice and I fed him in bed.
When I went to give him his medicine he fought and I had to get Charlie to hold him. Just recently Alex has been fighting taking his medicine, I think he’s just tired of taking so much medicine.
Alex and I sat and watched TV. I did some knitting. Alex wanted fruit cup for lunch. I fed him and he only ate about half and he drank all the juice. He said he didn’t want anymore.
We went back and sat and watched TV. Alex fell asleep around three o’clock. I phoned the hospital to check his blood count. The first time Krisann said it wasn’t written in his cart yet and she said she would check it on the computer. When she came back on the phone she said she would have to call me back in ten minutes as someone was using the computer.
At 3:45 p.m. Krisann hadn’t phoned back so I called. Krisann wasn’t there so I talked to another nurse. She gave me the blood count and I told her Alex was tired and I wondered if his HBG was down. I thought he would need blood. I don’t know why she got this idea but she said just because his HBG is down doesn’t mean we have to stop chemotherapy. I never even mentioned chemotherapy being stopped. I just wanted them to know that Alex might need blood. I then told her Alex hadn’t had a bowel movement since Sunday and I wondered if he should take Colace or if it was okay. The nurse said well I better get Krisann to phone you as I don’t know anything about that.
Alex had fallen asleep on the couch and I went to move him to his bed but he woke up.
About ten minutes later Krisann phoned back, she apologized that she didn’t phone earlier but she got held up by a doctor. She said doctors sure can carry on.
I told her about Alex being unable have a bowel movement and was it normal. Krisann said Alex should have a bowel movement every three days. She then said to give Alex the Colace now and then tomorrow morning.
After I got off the phone I told Alex he would have to have the Colace as he hadn’t had a bowel movement. Alex then ran to the bathroom and tried to go. He cried and screamed that he didn’t want to take the medicine that it would be sour. I finally had to take him out of the bathroom and into the kitchen and sit him down. He said he wanted a drink of ginger ale and a muffin. I gave him the Colace and he seemed to be surprised about the taste. He said Mama it taste like mint.
We played a game until five o’clock and then I went and got dinner ready. Alex ate quite a bit of dinner and then he asked me to play with his big cars with him.
At 6:30 p.m. I gave Alex a bath and as usual he screamed and yelled, that he couldn’t have a bath. He said it would hurt his eyes and that the shampoo would go into his eyes and ears. I just went ahead and started the bath water . The best thing is to ignore his complaints.
I find it really tiring when Alex starts fighting with us over everything. Even eating he has something to say about it. He says such silly things. He’ll say “I’m going to knock you down” or I’ll keep slamming my door” or “I’ll spit my medicine out” or “I’ll throw up”.
In the morning I feel like I haven’t slept long. I feel tired most of the day it’s not until evening that I get a little more energetic but I find by ten o’clock I’m staring to feel tired again.
I read Alex three books and then he said he wanted pea soup. By eight o’clock Alex was in bed and he fell asleep not long after.
I watched TV for awhile then I took the garbage downstairs and did the dishes. Around nine o’clock I watched TV and did some more knitting. At ten o’clock I started writing in the journal. It’s now eleven o’clock, I’ll go and get ready for bed.
