I woke up at eight o’clock. It’s Charlie’s birthday today! Charlie and Alex were still asleep so I went and had a shower. I dried my hair then got dressed. Charlie and Alex woke up, Alex brought Charlie his birthday present. Alex said to Charlie, HAPPY FATHER’S DAY, Pa! I couldn’t blame him for being confused. I think he doesn’t know the difference between Mother/Father’s Day and Birthdays.
Alex wanted scrambled eggs made in the microwave. He thinks it’s really something cooking food in it. We got ready to go to the hospital, we have to be there at ten o’clock. We left at 9:30 a.m. and got there after ten o’clock.
About ten or fifteen minutes after we got there Martina did a small I.V. She took blood and gave Alex his ARA-C. Alex was really good, the role playing has helped him quite a bit. He blew bubbles when Martina put the needle in and out. We waited until eleven o’clock for Alex’s LP. Lorraine held Alex while Dr S did the LP. It seems like the other nurses don’t know how to hold Alex except Krisann. Every time Krisann hasn’t done it, there always seems to be a problem. Alex started to cry as soon as he got on the table. He cried most of the time Lorraine held him. It seemed to take longer than usual. Alex kept on straightening his back which stops the flow of the fluid. They had to keep moving him into a curled position.
Alex picked a prize from the box, he took a toy jeep.
I told Dr S what happened with Kurt yesterday. She said tonsillitis is contagious because you cannot be certain it is tonsillitis, it could be a number of things.
When Lorraine came to check Alex’s temperature she asked if he had come in contact with any infections. I told her about the tonsillitis. I asked her if Alex could get it and how long before we would know. She asked if we were inside and I said no Alex had been riding his bike when Kurt came over. Lorraine said the chances of Alex catching it outside are less than indoors. She said it would take about a week before we would know.
You know it really irritates me to think Kurt was outside playing. I can remember when were kids, if we had a temperature during the day we were not let outside to play. I can remember Mom saying if you’re too sick to go to school you’re too sick to play outside. Nora had said it’s not contagious. I sure want to phone her up and say by the way tonsillitis is contagious. You know Nora you should watch who Kurt plays with, all the neighbourhood kids will be getting it. I don’t have the nerve but I wish I did!
I sure hope Alex doesn’t get sick, it’s scary to think about him catching anything. So far he’s been very lucky.
We left at noon, Alex wanted chicken. We stopped at Brownies on the way home. Charlie dropped us off and went to Save-on-Foods.
Alex didn’t eat anything, he said he felt sick and wanted to lie down. He fell asleep within ten or fifteen minutes. I had lunch and made rice for Charlie.
Charlie came home and I helped him make Poached Fish. It was a recipe in the Microwave cookbook. We put the microwave on the shelf, then I cleaned up the kitchen. It sure looks a lot better with the microwave on the stand and off the counter. I can’t stand my counter space to be cluttered.
Alex woke up and we sang Happy Birthday to Charlie. Charlie and I had a piece of cake. Alex said his stomach hurt and he wanted to go back to bed.
Charlie left for work before three o’clock. I had to call him back from downstairs, Alex wanted Charlie to give him a hug.
At three thirty Alex threw up, unfortunately he threw up all over his pillow. I ran and got a bowl, he threw up some more. It wasn’t time for some gravol so we had to wait. Alex seemed okay afterwards.
At four o’clock Alex wanted to go outside and ride his bike. I find it amazing how children recover so fast. I mean half an hour ago he was throwing up and now he’s riding his bike. Half an hour later Alex said his stomached hurt. I told him we had better go inside and he should rest awhile. That maybe later we could come out again.
We had something to eat at five thirty and then watched TV. I put away the laundry and did some more laundry. I did the dishes and then we played a lot of games.
Alex told me it was time for my poke. He copied everything that happened today. He said I had to have two pokes. When I told him it was his turn he had a fit! He said I already had my poke, I don’t want another one.
Alex listened to two tape and book sets and then went to sleep. He was asleep by 10 :30 p.m.
I wrote in the journal for forty five minutes. It’s 11:20 p.m. and time for me to go to bed.
