Diagnosis: Leukemia; June 9, 1987

Alex woke me up before eight o’clock, he wanted to get dressed. I had breakfast and Alex said he wanted hot cereal. I gave him his cereal and he said he didn’t like it, he said he wanted a muffin.

He did a lot of complaining. I find that after he has had four shots for four days, on the fifth day he’s really cranky and he usually has a bit of a temperature.

I vacuumed the house, cleaned the bathrooms and washed all the floors. Then I had a shower, by that time it was almost one o’clock. I had lunch, Alex had lunch already with Charlie. As usual he didn’t eat much.

Charlie went to the bank, Alex and I went outside. We blew some bubbles and then Alex rode his bike. Charlie bought some donuts, so we all went inside and had some.

Around three o’clock we went for a drive, Alex said he wanted to go to a park. Halfway there he fell asleep, we went to the video store and rented a couple of movies. We went to Lions Park, Alex didn’t go on much. He said he would fall down and hurt himself. He went on the merry-go-round and the tires.

We went home and had dinner. Alex had about three bites of his corn on the cob, one piece of meat and a couple of French fries. After dinner Alex played with his cars.

A electrician came over for an estimate for the wiring in the basement.

I gave Alex his medicine around eight o’clock. He fought the whole time, Charlie had to hold him while I gave him the medicine.

I put Alex to bed around 8:30 p.m., he told me he was sorry and would I read him a story. I read him a story and he went to sleep.

I wrote in the journal for about half an hour. I’ll go to bed soon.
