Diagnosis: Leukemia; June 6, 1987

I woke up at 8:30 a.m. and had a shower. I got ready to go to the hospital, we had to be there around ten o’clock.

Alex had breakfast and I gave him some gravol. I thought it might help. Charlie had gotten him dressed and then we left around 9:30 a.m. We got to the hospital after ten o’clock. We didn’t have to wait as the medicine was already.

Alex wasn’t very good this time, he screamed and yelled. He was trying to get away from the needle and I had to hold him really tight.

We left the hospital and got home after eleven o’clock. Charlie went outside to paint the flower barrels and Alex wanted to go too. Alex rode his bike while Charlie painted. I wrote in journal from 11:10 a.m. to 12:10 a.m.

I went outside to see what Alex and Charlie were doing. Kurt came over for a little while, Nora came to get him, it was lunchtime. Alex and I went in for lunch. Alex didn’t eat much he wanted to go back outside and do some painting like Pa. He said where’s my paint brush? I told him he didn’t have one like Pa’s. Alex started to cry because he said he wanted to paint too.

I took Alex outside, so he could paint. Charlie let him paint with his paintbrush on a box.

I went back inside to eat my lunch.

At three o’clock we all went out to buy some bedding plants.

We came back after four o’clock and started getting the barrel ready for the plants. Charlie put in the rocks for drainage and the top soil.

Mom phoned and by the time I went out again Charlie had finished. The barrel was ready for the plants. We finished and went into the house at 5:30 p.m. I started dinner and we finished after six o’clock.

We went for a drive, we went to White Pine Beach but it wasn’t open. We didn’t go down, we decided to go to MacDonald’s and have an ice cream cone. We came home at 7:30 p.m., Alex, Charlie and Kelly went for a walk. I cleaned up the kitchen and after they came back I gave Alex his medicine and got Alex ready for bed.

At 8:30 p.m. Alex was in his room, he wanted to play with his cars. Alex fell asleep at 9:30 p.m., he was mad because I took away his cars.

I finished reading the booklets on Leukemia that Janice the social worker gave us. Then I watched TV and did my crossword puzzle book. I’ll get ready for bed it’s almost eleven o’clock.
